A 5-speed car, that you found locally? I'm jealous. Don't get me wrong, we like our 4spd, but it would be nice to shave a few rpm off at highway speed in the 190d.

The problem is that with less rpms you might also start seeing lower mph. :D

My 2.2 with a 3.07 diff and auto box are just about on the edge of enough power to maintain freeway speeds. On a significant slope it can be difficult to keep at 70 or above....even at 3,300rpm..... on flat ground it will roar along at 75-85 all day long with no issues.

and we will be blowing past your house this morning on our way over 80 to Reno. Zoom ......Zooooom..........I don`t drive that fast even in the 85 300D.

well, the 240 has lighter wheels stock, less interior weight, manual climate control, and sunroof control, so usually about 400 or so pounds lighter than the US 300D... and it's got shorter diff gears... to get it decent acceleration that results in MASSIVE noise at highway speeds due to engine RPM...

yup, I would not be surprised if they made a SPARTAN version with lighter interior, and climate control, with little to no power somewhere in the world, but to CHOOSE to build one out of a US optioned wagon seems a bad decision.

Well, in the chicago area you have to do 75+ in a 70 mph zone or you'll get clobbered- and at that speed our 190 does fine, but it is loud. Since everything is long and flat here, I think a 5spd would be nice- especially if it could give me a few more mpgs at highway speed. I'm getting around 42 mpg but a few more would give the old girl some serious bragging rights.
