What Euro (or other)Diesel's do we want in North America?

I vote for the VW XL-1 It is a 270 mpg car that Since66 talks about.

Toyota Hilux Diesel

I think I might have seen a couple of those. The newer one looked like a beach edition, resembled a 4-runner... fat tires on stock rims and the other was older, just plain navy blue. and looked more like a 4x4 van type of a vehicle? They were both diesel. The only downside to the ones I have seen are that the steering wheel is on the wrong side. I stop looking at that point. I also saw a Nissan diesel vehicle something like the Hilux... also had st./wheel on the wrong side. I think there is someone in town that is importing some of these type vehicles. I have seen lots of MR2'S AND Nissan Skyline's, with wrong side steering wheels. Saw RHD examples for sale for ridiculous prices. Don't know why?

I guess Plasma T.V'S went from $6000.00 to $1000.00 in three years.

Probably the more people that buy them the cheaper they could be?

If everyone drove one, the size would'nt be so bad.

Hey.... the government could do an experiment and buy one for everyone in a large city which would increase the production and funding for the car company and reduce the price for the rest of us throughout the world....then analyse the pollution and the city's dependancy on oil....the research could spiral from there.

We could start in.......Dallas,Texas of all places. The Bush's would love it. K everyone in Dallas trades in their ride for a new VW XL-1. XZIBIT COULD pimp them door to door.

I just looked up the VW XL-1. It looks pretty fabulous. It is a limited production car though sort of a drivabe show car/test mule though. They will take what they learn from it and build some more conventional vw style four seaters etc.

It said it will do 141 mpg running without the plug in feature (hybrid only....diesel electric).

In general it seems to have a lot in common with the Honda insight gen 1, which I have always liked a lot.

More realistically, an Audi A2 1.2T, the famous "3-liter car". 80MPG.

Seems like this Toyota Hilux is popular. What's the deal with them. Is it Toyota's 4-Runner (as we know it here), with a diesel or is there more to them.

I saw a documentary awhile back with some Toyota 4 runner looking things that were imported here to go on trips to the North Pole. I can't remember if they were diesel or not. It seems to me they did a feature on the same show about how these vehicles were prepared for the rigorous journey's in the cold. It was awhile ago I watched it, so it is a little foggy. They did well. I wonder if they were hopped up Hilux's?
