I don't know if I'm ready for another project right now, but one that looks interesting and promising to me is an OM603 swap into an R129. The R129 is based on a shortened W124 floor pan, so it would seem fairly realistic to expect that the OM603 would bolt right in without any terrible fitment issues as the OM603 was used in the W124 and the M104 was used in both. The 603 has a manual IP so that should be pretty straightforward. From a smog-legal perspective, using a M603 out of a same year or newer vehicle is easily done. And the smog equipment to my knowledge is just ARV, EGR and CAT (to get retitled).

The key to my 617 into a 107 swap was the fact that the 617 was used in a W115 that used the same subframe as the 107. The above swap would seem to be the same kind of thing.

I'm aware of an OM606 being installed in an R107 that is painfully close to a first start. This is a project that is not for the faint of heart, the budget minded, the engineering deficient, the impatient or the fabrication challenged.

Mach 4....Never mind 11 pages Got up to page 17 last night on your swap thread...and it seems there is way more than I thought. You really put alot of work into that thread and it shows. I will finish reading the thread, seems I have no choice, it has become addicting to read and look at the pictures. Like the readers have said... it is more a work of art what you did on that project. Yours is the best thread on any forum I have read so far.

To everyone that has'nt seen Mach 4's thread and if you plan on swapping engines in anything, this would be an excellent choice to use as a guideline. Very informative and detailed, Thanks.

I was thinking of putting my 606 into an R107 but decided against due to the difficulty.

I have to rebuild the auto trans, and figure out what I'm going to do about the trans linkage and drive shaft. Still need to find oil and trans coolers, but everything else should be fairly straight forward.

The 617 is almost the same size as the 6 cylinder coming out.
I have a 78 Dodge D100 I'm thinking of doing the same. Let me know if you run into a problem some where or another

Smart choice!

It's definitely possible, but the engineering and fabrication skills and the tenacity required, is extreme.

Cool

current swap in progress: d24t powered 1981 volvo bertone coupe. it's about as close to a bolt-in as it gets. i've got the car with empty engine bay, and the motor in a stand. i just need to light a fire under my azz and get this thing slapped together.

next on the list: 1st gen cummins powered pop top dodge ramcharger 4x4. this will be my dream tow vehicle slash ranch truck.

then: mtdi into a vw cabriolet with a vgt maybe

finally?: something no one has currently done & it may end up being a bolt-in project. i'm keeping this one to myself until i have the parts, or the money for parts.

Don't know why I didn't see this thread earlier. You might want to check out my build thread - OM617 into an '85 S-10 for Land Speed Racing. It'll never see the road but will be fun for it's intended purpose.

The thread is "I'm Back........" I also have more pics - if interested I can tell you where to find them.

It's going into my 300D for now and then into an E320 cabriolet when I get money to blow and make it into the ultimate super turbo

Check Jeep sites. I have run across several M-B diesel swaps there while searching for info on my car.

I completed my swap about 6 or 7 years ago, but have constantly been doing modifications to my Jeep scrambler since.

Her name is Mayahual (the Agave Burro) and she has a Mercedes OM602 DE2.9LA with a wide range Getrag 5 speed manual trans married to an Atlas transfer case. My most recent modification was to rip out the electronicly controled IP and built (with the help of a REALLY good Bosch pump house) a hybrid mechanical pump. I also replaced the 17 gallon tank with a 33 gallon tank, fab'd a over-sized filler port. and replaced the vacuum assisted brakes with hydo-boost.
