Underpowered 300SD

1980 300SD - Had biofuel problems. Car had hard starting, wouldn't idle on it's own, no power. Did Diesel Purge. No improvement. So I've...

1. Put in rebuilt injectors...all five.
2. Put in a rebuilt injector pump.
3. Put in all new fuel lines all the way back to the tank.
4. Removed tank, had it cleaned at the radiator shop, and reinstalled.

The car now starts up the first time. Idles perfectly smooth. But not much response when I mash the accelerator down. It crawls, and I mean crawls, for a while, especially uphill. After maybe 10 to 15 seconds, the transmission appears to engage properly, and the car then takes off and runs generally like it supposed to.

Any ideas about what to do about my no-power-at-the-start-and-going-uphill problems?

Thanks,

All good...

New fuel filters (both) with new pump and injectors. Lift pump good and newly reconditioned with rebuilt injector pump.

Thanks,

1980, so you have the first year for the EGR in the 617 engine. Did you clean/check the Banjo Bolt at the rear of the intake Manifold? these tend to get gunked up with soot/oil goop, and plug up the boost line running over to the Switch Over valve, and then connects to the ALDA.

There is a metal seal washer on both side of the bolt, be careful not to loose them.

Is the low power only off the line or is it problematic at normal drving speeds as well?
Transmission or Engine?

I would check the switch over valve also like charmalu said, i had the exact same symptoms and i cleaned out the banjo bolt and hoses, and the switchover valve was stuck and i was able to agitate it a little and free it up. Ran like a new car after that. Also, valve adjustment is something to check.

This should be answered before anything else.... also the Q on whether it's only when moving off from a stop.

Could be one of several things... or a combination.

PO has not responded, so I sent him a PM with a link to his thread... see if he's fixed it yet.
