What to do when your car is sad.

In america, when we feel down, we go shopping. So while I wait for a good opportunity to pop the pistons out and give the walls a fresh scrubber.....

Why yes I think it will fit!

Does the chassis really need the extra stiffness, there? I mean with the double firewall already, and much touted "drives like it's carved from one block of steel"... how much stiffer do you need?

Well it is the classic point to fit one isn't it? Are you suggesting it is superfulous?

I usually tickle mine on the belly. Cheers 'em right up - and cheaper than new parts. But I have a hoist so it's relatively easy to get to their tummy.

The W124 is already an incredibly rigid body....have to wonder if it would even make a difference.

The 500e came with extra support bracing underneath. The 190rev guys have some very interesting k braces and other goodies.

By double firewall are you referring to the sound encapsulator?

Winmutt It looks like it fits above the hood seal.

Can you tell any difference on how it drives?

In the Mustang world it's called a strut tower brace. It keeps the towers in one place - they can't move in or out because the "borrow" strength from each other. I don't know if the Benz is prone to any movement there but many cars are and mine definitely enhanced my 'Stang's handling. But when I put in the 5.8L it wouldn't fit so I lost the improvement.

Ha ha. In the RX7 world it is also called a strut tower brace! The R1 and R2 models of the FD came with it standard. It does eliminate any movement of the strut towers towards or away from each other. Friends who own these models report that it is really only felt when on the track at high speed.

Sincerely,

Packman

My experience with old MBZ car is to make it happy first. Then pamper it more if necessary. Not the other way round.
