I'd be reading my policy, and their policy very carefully. If you have full coverage I wouldn't hesitate to get your insurance company involved.
X2 If you have collision, repair through your insurance company and have them subrogate with the other.

Many times your company will waive the deductible, otherwise you pay it and wait to be reimbursed.

Other insurance company should have had you in a rental all this time. In fact you should get one tomorrow on their dime... helps speed up the process when they are shelling out every day.

I have been driving my 300d for the past two months while the insurance company exercised every known method to screw me over. Then my 300d died. It was nothing wrong with the car, as it turned out, the GFI outlet that powered the block heater popped. Should have known there was nothing wrong with the car. But I called the insurance company, and they rented me, of all things, a bright red camaro. In New England. In the middle of winter. Then called a day later to say that they had revoked the rental because my 300cd was "driveable," according to the adjuster. Even though I had no headlight and no turn signal, they expected me to drive it anyway. Any tickets incurred were my responsibility, of course. After politely stating that the world would seem quite different with her head outside of her rectum, the adjuster hung up on me four times in a row, until I had my lawyer call them up. Instantaneously, I was told that my car could be brought to the shop of my choice, and work could begin. Now they're trying to total it. My lawyer is a friend of mine, and he does little things for free, but I don't want to over use his kindness, and I lack the funds to pay him for real, so now I wait. I have already emailed the NADA price report to the adjuster and the body shop, and I have not heard back from either of them. Hopefully, this new week will bring some answers.
If the car is drivable why is there problems? Throw the light and turn signal from your 300 D or one in a scrapyard and get back on the road.

Alright, so here's the deal: The insurance company has decided, in their infinite wisdom, that my car is worth fixing. After an entire week of the adjuster trying to lowball me, he has come to the conclusion that my car is worth $10,000. As such, he now has to break out the checkbook until the total reaches $7500. My car is saved for now, until they try to pull something else. Now to wait on the shop.

Good to hear.
Are you familiar with the shop?

I would let the shop owner know that you are positive that you do not want the car totaled.
In a borderline case, the owner can push a job either way.

The shop is very well aware that I do not want the car totaled. The insurance company actually asked them to put the car on a wrecker and ship it to a junkyard, without alerting me. The project manager laughed at him and then called me. The shop knows that I hold the title, and that I am handing it over to no one. They also know that this insurance company has been screwing around with me for over two months, so it's safe to say they're on my side. I would just do the work myself, but I work nine hours a day to pay the mortgage, then go to school for 12 credits a semester. Time's a little tight, so I really just want to get it fixed and back on the road. If I do it, it will always happen tomorrow.

Can we have some photos of the damage?

Another option is to see if there is a local member near you that would be willing to do the work. If your car has been at the shop for 2 months...I know the guy is charging a storage fee....I mean if your struggling with the bills that much....I would rather have a dented fender on my car and the extra cash to help with the bills then spend all the money plus possible out of pocket for storage......my car got hit on the fender.....the body shop said 3k for the repair....I got the cash....popped the dent out with a small hammer....bought the rubber bumper molding and door ding strip for 40$......there was no need to put an OEM fender and bumper strip on my car....

Alright, next question, the body shop is telling me they can't find parts. Is there a source for sheet metal for these cars? I'm hoping the shop is just being lazy, but will the hood and fender from my 300d fit on the 300cd?

well... the hood MAY fit, but I don't think so.
the fenders will NOT fit. they are close, so you can use a D fender for metal to splice and everything will line up, but the hood/door hinge area lines will be off.

. Do not forget to charge the body shop for any parts you source for them at high going prices.

To match the original older color would be very hard. I wonder if there wil be a fight ahead for a total repaint to match everything well or it could be concealed in the bill somehow. Or in exchange for the cost of the replacement parts you supply. Where there is a will there is a way.

Again perhaps partial payback for having to deal with the nice insurance company.Never forget that request of theirs to send the car to the wreckers given to the body shop without your being informed of it..

They have just figured out they are truly liable to make you sound again as you have too many valid avenues open to you to force it. Plus not very receptive to their not unusual tactics. I might try some of the used parts suppliers listed on our site for any sheet metal that is differant than the four doors. There will be a solid parts coupe somewhere. Hemmings motor news may be a source as well. The fender may stil be available from mercedes as well if coupe specific.

Do some reasearch on proper mercedes part numbers. Adsit an atrocious companys sheet metal listings show the same part numbers for aftermarket hoods and fenders on the 123 coupes and four doors.

Do not buy aftermarket sheet metal anyways for these cars. A patch panel maybe but not complete body parts.

Be sure to use the classic valuation at NADA.

Classic Car Values & Specs - NADAguides

Buy a copy and use that. You will likely need to take the guilty party AND the insurance company to court - sue them both, so it ituns into a bleeding match.

An 82 CD is priced between $6k and $13k, roughly.

1982 Mercedes-Benz 300CD-T 2 Door Coupe Value, Prices & Specs | NADAguides | NADA 1982 Mercedes-Benz 300CD-T Book Value & 1982 Mercedes-Benz 300CD-T Market Price

I paid $7k two years ago for a near-mint CA 82 with 160k.

So now the shop has decided it is un fixable sure to some rot on the inner fender well where the radiator support attaches. Bringing it to another shop tomorrow after the insurance company pays 1200 in storage fees. Am I just chasing my tail here?
