Looking at a 80sd

Am I crazy to even consider a 285k sd?
2 owner car, records, ext and int said to be good. I’ll see it tommorow, but wonder how long the trans will last. They want 6500 , kinda crazy. I know it’s not only about mileage, but how much maintenance was done. Everything works, windows, lock, cc , sunroof.

Most low mileage sd are expensive and have been sitting for a while

Where is the car located? Unless the car is mint, that price is way too high. There are super clean SDs down here in San Diego that have been sitting at $4,500. Mileage may not be an issue. Like you said, at least it's been driven and hopefully loved.

Look on Facebook Marketplace. Can't post a link here, but there's a very nice 85' 300SD on sale here for $4,500. It's been up for months now, so they would probbaly take less. No idea on how it is in-person, I haven't seen it.

You, however, are looking at a W116 (1980).

Not for the SD…

SD started with the W126 in 81…

The SE came out in 79 in 126

I know rust isn’t much of an issue in CA, but if you want the car, be EXCRUCIATINGLY thorough looking for rust. That chassis is highly prone to rot.
