Dang! I twisted it clockwise with a crescent wrench and tried to do it gently, but snapped it off. ........

Not always......my '99 MB E300TD is an ETD, and the TD doesn't mean touring diesel, it means turbodiesel, for it is a 4-door sedan. The MSO from Mercedes-Benz, Germany clearly states; ETD, without question..... I bought the car new, and have complete documentation of the MSO, AND original title licensed in Texas. The MSO stated; ETD, hence the state title states; ETD. It's an ETD, all day - without question.

I have a lot of experience with rust out, and I know this will never be the beautiful MB that many desire.
My primary auto interest has been old trucks for the past 40 years, and lately doing diesel conversions on these older rigs. I tear into the MB tonight after work. Owner said that when he brought it into the states they made him put a catylatic converter on it and it instantly became a slug. He said to cut it off and I'll be way more happy with the power. Muffler fell off on the way home anyhow, so I just might bust out the sawzall and go straight-piped for a while. I will have a bunch of questions. Some vac hoses open, some plugged with bolts etc etc. Don't laugh, it's pretty rough, but I never abandon a project and soon, very soon it will look way better. Already starts, runs and shifts like a dream.
It was an add-on because it was imported. 86 that apparatus.....

Hmm...from what I understand:
E = fuel injected
T = touring/estate
D = diesel
S = saloon
L = long wheelbase
C = Coupe
And we usually just add a '-T' at the end for 'turbo' (300TDT, etc)

Seems weird they'd change the designations....I digress, though.

It's late here on the west coast... I'm pretty jazzed about this car. I plan to get a bunch of pics tomorrow morning. I am sooo bummed about snapping off the T handle. Like beyond stupid. Vice grips on the remaining stud? I turned it clockwise. There is an owners manual in the glovebox and it's in German. I saw a pic of the 3rd row seat T handle and it looked like it was supposed to turn clockwise. If anyone knows for sure, let me know so I dont go the wrong way with the vise grips. Thanks so very much! Goodnight
