Injector heat shields are stuck, Help!
1983 NA 300D Euro model
Are there any tricks to getting the heat shields out of the injector holes? 3 out of 5 are stuck. I've tried a "hook" to get in behind and pull but that didn't work. Is heat my friend in this situation? Thanks in advance! I need the car this weekend.

I used a stainless steel welding rod sharpened and bend at a 90 to get mine out.

soak some PB blaster on them, get in there with an awl, and scrape around them, get the carbon off them, then spin the motor over... they'll pop right out.

Injector heat shields are stuck, Help!
I used a screw driver and soaked them with wd-40 to get them out. Just make sure you crank the engine before you install the injectors to get the wd-40 out.

Look at the Pics which Heat Shields do you have the 10mm hole ones or the smaller 5mm Holes.
The 10mm ones are harder to get out if carboned in because there is less to hook onto.

I used a slide hammer on a stubborn shield one time after trying a variety of stuff. Popped right out once I hooked it.

I used a magnetic pick up tool

I used a slide hammer with a left threaded screw. Perhaps it works with other types of screw or bolt too.

I have used a large screw extractor. Just make sure it doesn't go too far into the prechamber.

get some lag screws from home depot - choose one that is about as wide as the hole, screw in a couple of threads and rock it, it should pop out.
If not then you need to slide hammer it out.

If not packed under carbon and you can see the heat shield, easiest way without worry of scratching anything with awls, screwdrivers, dent pullers etc is to use a flat faced punch and hammer and tap on the circumference of the heat shield a bunch of times. That usually loosen them up and a magnetic pickup tool gets them out.

I take the end of my breaker bar and tap the heat shield to break up the bond to the prechamber. You can tap it pretty hard but I would advise against slamming the breaker bar around in your injector holes. Turning the engine over is the next step.

I used brake cleaner to loosen them, and long needle nose pliers to grab at the inside hole.
