Does anyone know where I can get instructions on removing and replacing the Tranny on an 87 300D?

It's easier to pull it out with the engine but if you must know...

Disconnect battery
Lift car as high as you can safely go on all 4 corners
Disconnect ground cable, vacuum lines, and speedo cable
Remove linkage
Unbolt exhaust support(some people drop the exhaust)
Support transmission with a transmission jack
Remove cross member
Unbolt one end of the flex disc and mark it's location
push drive shaft back out of the way and support it or tie it up
Drain torque converter drain transmission
Disconnect cooler lines
Unbolt the torque converter. 6 bolts
Remove starter
Unbolt the tranny
Slide backwards and out

I think that's all, I'm working from memory.

I can yank one out in an hour.

Thanks very much.

I have swapped many engines, and have replaced quite a few trannys.
This sounds pretty straight forward.

I have called a few shops to get estimates, and they say it take 6-7 hours ro R&R. Any idea why they say it takes so long??

What makes it difficult, that many people say to pull the engine and tranny together?

The shop is probation going by the book hours. Plus they can probably do it faster and easier than 7 hours to r&r.

It's easier to pull them as a pair because the transmission can be a pain to pull on its own
