I was lucky enough that none of the internals were broken. I guess the screws holding the retainer plate loosened over time and it just popped. I was even luckier that I found all the little balls and springs! I just cleaned everything up, put some gear lube in there and buttoned it back up.

Husky actually makes a really nice socket set. I wind up breaking cheap extensions or adapters but never splitting a socket. I even use the sockets on my impact gun with no worries.
