what did you do to your ride today?

what did you do to your ride today?

today i rewired the stereo to shut off with the ignition key like normal. i used to have it set up to have power all the time. then i cleaned up some of the old oil mess from the stock leaky oil/air separator on the right side of the engine bay.

....."ride".......?

;)

Not a thing........I walked & ran on foot to where I needed/wanted to go today......better for you anyway.

Haven't driven or turned the key on anything in 3-4 days here.

I'm doing my part to save the planet......somebody has to pitch-in! ;)

Depending on when I get home from work I might be swapping injectors with a set I had rebuilt by Greazzer

On Monday AM, about Mar 11, I pulled the 716.2 4 speed manual out of my 240D with 617Turbo and replaced it with same model I purchased from Jory in Chattanooga. Mine had a broken ear on the back plate and I couldn't get a good hold of the exhaust. The purchased trans is wonderful, feels and shifts like a new one, very little 1st gear noise. It was stored for years in the garage of an old Mercedes Mechanic who Passed Away before he needed it.

Hey, when you rewired, did you notice that your clock started working? Or do you have a clock?

i'll let you know in a few hours. lol. i just ran out and set the clock after reading your post. i don't think i've bothered with a dash clock since i got my first cell phone. and when i say i "rewired", i mean i just switched the stereo power wire from one connector over to another.

anyway, today i ordered new power steering hoses. mine are both weeping constantly. i lose about a quart of fluid per month with a new pump shaft seal. before the new seal i was using a quart per week.

Back to work on the 4-speed manual conversion in my 300TD. Getting the shift rods cut, threaded, and tweaked to fit today. Got the trans bolted in without clutch or flywheel for sizing things up. 240d auto crossmember installed and looks perfect.

Got the overhauled and shortened driveshaft back from driveline service of N Atl, looks fantastic. New pilot bushings, center bearing, universal joint, balanced.

Next is to make pilot bushing.

I flushed my power steering and replaced the old stuff that looked more like old engine oil then power steering fluid, with bright shiny new red synthetic fluid.

Messed with the transmission vacuum system, eliminating leaks and adjusting the VCV, until I got smooth shifts without flaring. The car now drives better than it has at any point in my ownership. Very satisfying.

Today or yesterday I guess now. I took of the the driver and passenger side door panels to track down some vac leaks. Found the old rubber diaphragms had dry rotted on the passenger lock actuator. Cleaned and re-lubed all of the door latch parts and discovered my car was in a wreck or something in its life. Passenger door was blue on the inside while the drivers was the smoke silver like the exterior paint. Which explains the old style door lock actuator from a pre '81 car in my '85. The driver side door handle metal was broken. I ordered a new handle a bunch of new little parts from ***************. Now it's 230AM and I should really get to behhh....ZZZzzzzzzZZZZZZzzzz.

R&R waterpump and lower radiator pipe on the Taurus Duratec 3.0. Everything was a super tight fit. I needed tiny hands to get the work done. Makes me appreciate the glorious OM606 in my 95. I wouldn't want to work on this Ford too often. Parts, thermostat, coolant, and a 12 pack of Bud Light cost me $400. PITA job.

pgringo 03-23-2013 06:07 PM

installed the power steering hoses. no more ps leaks! then i ran through a can of gunk engine degreaser and barely made a dent in the mess. it looks like i have a leak at the oil filter assembly lid and i've still got oil being forced out the oil filler cap, even with my high flowing oil/air separator. ugh.

one thing at a time.
