W123 A-pillar interior trim removal

I was unable to locate a reference in the service manuals for W123 A-pillar cover removal. I poked around the forums a bit but also came up empty (didn't perform a 'scorched earth' search so may have missed it).

Did not care to force it as that's usually a recipe for either a bent or broken clip and trim that never fits properly again. I was able to strip my entire wagon interior but the A-pillar removal just wasn't obvious to me so I'm posting pics hoping it might help others one day.

They pop off but can be stuck on pretty tight sometimes. Stick a flat pry bar between the trim and the body, and gently pry. I think there are two clips that hold the trim on. Pry gently until you can locate where the clips are then slide you pry bar in right where the clip is and pry. They'll pop out.

i think i have seen this in the FSM somewhere and that the instructions are to rotate it. don't quote me on that. the problem is that the two clips are in different orientations 90 degrees away from each other. i also found it terribly difficult i think i broke one of them.

Be careful with the VIN tag on the driver's side. You just need a wedge (plastic, or something soft, preferably) to pry it off, from bottom to top. The clips, as said, may break, especially if it is the first time the trim is removed.

If I remember correctly I was able to pull/pry mine out some but not all the way. I was able to reach in with a flat head screwdriver to compress the clip and release it after the trim was partially pulled away. Hope that makes sense.

Before prying literally slap it with your hand a few times. If the clips are rusted in place that can help free them up.
