om617 coolant leak help.

my girl's 300td sprang a coolant leak this morning. i have found the souce but do not know what to do about it. the leak is coming from the side of the block. from a circle "plug". it looks very similar to where the temp sensor is located but the hole has a plug or something in it. it is weeping pretty steadily. i have a pic on my phone and will try to post it soon .any help will be appreciated.

I sent a pic to my local indy. Turns out its a freeze plug. Right behind the ip. Im thinking some jb weld should stop the leak until i have a chance to replace it.

If 1 freeze plug leaks then the other is not too far behind. I would change the coolant immediately, replace the freeze plug and hope for the best. The rust inhabitant is all gone in the coolant.

I know. Thats what you get when you buybthe cheapest, running 300td within driving distance. My plan is to patch the leak, order a full set of plugs, then find a weekend where i can replace all the freeze plugs and do a citris flush. Im assuming the citris flush will cause other leaks but we will deal wi lcross that bridge when we come to it.

Does anyone know of any good diys on freeze plugs. Im sure i can do the exhaust side but the injection side looks like a pita and the one in the bell housing will likely have to wait.

There may be a freeze plug between the engine and the tranny. I know other cars have one, not sure about the om617. That would be a Royal PITA.

Good luck.

I wish i had the time and place so i could just pull the engine. Swap all the plugs, find all the oil leaks and clean her up. The previous owner was literallly bragging abiut all the mantainance he never had done in the 30 years he had the car.

"it's ok, no smog, whatever. Haha" - p.o.

Good news is: pressure washing the area turned the trickle into a stream. Which left me stranded in the kmart parking lot.

Bad news: i was able to patch the plug with jb weld steel stick. Seems to be holding pretty good.
