A high density polyethylene barrel should probably be okay. HDPE aka #2 plastic aka PE-HD you get the idea. IIRC that's the standard plastic drum material.

A cheap easy pump is to seal the drum, hook up an outlet tube with a dip tube that goes to the bottom of the barrel, and pump in some air into the top of the barrel to get things flowing.

That's something I miss about having a diesel...you can get fuel delivered and have your own fuel station at home

Got this fender off just in time. There's surface rust on the inside under the trim. Got to sand it down a bit and paint it. Suggestions on a product to clean oil and grime from paint without harming said paint? My hands were nasty when I took the fender off. I think I'm going to get NCfriend's euro bumper before I replace the fenders.

Looks like I've tracked down a W115 intake manifold. Does the exhaust manifold from those offer any better flow?

Simple green then rinse shouldn't eat the paint

If you don't plan on turboing the engine, the regular NA intake is pretty much the same as the W115 intake. If you're going turbo, W115 intake all the way.

The W115 exhaust has two outlets, I think either manifold would flow similarly with some porting. I don't have numbers to back that up though. superturbo is down otherwise I'd send you a link to the manifold bible

I'm not paying a fortune for the W115 intake. So I figure what the hell, since I want to delete my EGR anyway. I want it to look cleaner, so I'm going to replace the manifolds instead of modifying them. If this deal falls through though, I'd be looking for an early regular intake manifold, sans EGR.

The 78 and 79 300SD W116 intake/exhaust manifolds have no EGR. but then those are for a Turbo.

What were the years of non-turbo, non-egr?

81 might be the first year of the NA EGR. My 80 240D is none EGR, so going from that assume 81 is the first yr. I know the 82 240 has the egr, the 300D`s are probably the same.

Mine is an 80 and has EGR...I think. Wait, is it in the same place on the turbo and NA models?

I'm having trouble sourcing sheet metal without rust/dents. I've found one guy in town that seems to have a ton, but wants $80 for a fender and more for doors.

So far on the list:

Replace panels with a bunch of colors.
Suspension.
Attempt to improve engine.
Strip everything broken.

I won't be stripping things like electric windows, since they're working. Just everything broken that I don't feel I need to put money into fixing, like the central locking system.

Well, pictures of my car..kinda boring. It is just an ugly dark blue wagon. Nothing special.
This picture, that I saved from one of my surfs on the webs, is way better.
Reading your ideas I thought of this one;

Jan.

That's exactly what I'm going for, except more colorful. I've discovered some new rust, so it's going to look a bit more hacked up. haha.

Picked up some bundt pans from NCfriend (Thanks NCfriend!). Started cleaning them up yesterday.

Start.

Round 1: dish soap.

Round 2: Simple Green.

And then I didn't feel like spending any more time on them. I swapped on the good tires on the back of the parts car for my front wheels and had everything balanced. The car seems to ride a bit better.

Bleh. So this will be coming to a sad and abrupt end. I wish I hadn't, but I decided to go poking around under that coating they sprayed on the top and bottom of the floor. There's no metal between it. The rust is extensive, and kind of scary to look at. Not sure what to do. I don't know how to weld and I can't afford to have someone weld it for me. Even if I did, the car really isn't worth it. I guess I'm going to try and buy another car and part this one out. I really hate the idea, because this car has really grown on me.

No fun!

There was a nice 85 300TD for sale locally, rust free, white etc. Said it had rod knock, but motor was recently rebuilt (May just be nailing?)

I will dig it up

ALSO!
If you part it out, I would like 1st dibs on the grill badge!
