bad, bad shop in Vancouver B.C.

I take my car in to look at heater which has stopped working. I was in Vancouver BC. Henneken Auto where this guy named Hans promises to look at the car.

$1500 to replace blower motor, a servo and something else. I decline.

The next day I have a problem with my master cylinder. No power brakes. Scary. I get this replaced and the part looks odd. Like it is newer than it should compared to the rest of the engine.

Today I check fuses, replace two and sure enough my heater is now fine. I know this guy tried to rip me off on the repair and I honestly believe he swapped out my good part for a faulty one.

I am calling him and registering a complaint with the BBB. Stay away!

Wow! I really hope you're wrong on this. Because if a mechanic would be so desperate for work that he would replace your master cylinder with a faulty one, he should be charged criminally with fraud - keeping in mind that this fraud could cause injury or death. I'd prefer to think that he just really likes to return old parts in clean condition.

I also hope you are right. At least he is incompetent, in the middle a fraud, and at worst scary and dangerous. I will be confronting him tomorrow.

Monaco, I understand your frustration.
But before you go on the attack with the mechanic, try to examine the situation looking only at the facts. I say this because what you're accusing this guy of is VERY serious and as such, you should be absolutely certain that his actions were intended as fraud. I'm sure if you were in his shoes and innocent, you'd be VERY offended by such an accusation. I know the whole incident sounds suspicious, but it just may be coincidental. I recommend presenting him with the facts: ie. The old part looks new... etc. If he can't answer adequately, then perhaps your suspicions are founded and you should take further action.
I'd like to hear what some of the pro mechanics on this board have to say.
