stock horsepower for a w123
Just curious: what does the 617 turbodiesel generate in terms of horsepower and torque?
I'm buying a 300TD, basically sight unseen, and fully realize it won't be a rocket but I am curious about overall performance and are there any relatively inexpensive measures to enhance acceleration? |

I have a 1981 300TD also.... it should be right at 120 hp..... not a rocket , but not as slow as you might have been led to believe. Between 20 and 40 acceleration is sorta slow... but you get used to just flooring it most of the time... in traffic... and it does fine.. and after the turbo kicks in passing through 40 it is a perfectly fine, fast, tank.... and rides great....and mine would cruise at 70 and get 27 mpg at the same time (with 280,000 miles ! )... a fine trade off for the speed off the line....

I have a 85 300d 617.952 engine. According to my owners manual, the Federal version develops 123net-bph@ 4350 rpm.
The Calif. version is 118net-bph @ 4350 rpm. GaryGive a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.
