Replaced Nailing Monarks with Original Bosch - welcome back!

OK, here's the story. At around 220,000 miles I felt I needed to "do something" in regards to the injectors. I read that Bosch are now made in India so I decided to purchase a new set of Monark injectors. From the beginning, they nailed upon start up and that problem never went away. Fast forward to now; I managed to source a very nice set of used original German made Bosch injectors. I installed them this evening and bled the fuel system. The car started right up and better yet NO NAILING!!! The engine sounds like a Mercedes diesel should.

In addition to the nailing problem, I noticed the pintels on the Monarks looked black and sooty. I shined my work light into the injection chambers and each chamber looks black and sooty. I am going to do a Lubro Moly diesel purge and also make sure the Injection pump timing and ALDA settings are correct before making my final judgement. But, for right now, the car sounds a LOT HAPPIER!!

FYI, I spoke in length on the telephone with one of the mainstays of this forum and he told me he is hearing nothing but complaints about Monarks. He said he is recommending that people stick with Bosch.

well on my 240D i have little over 2k on my monarks and they seemed to be no differance than the origional ones .

just put monarks in my 617 powered mazda .. havent compared mialage but IT runs a lot better at slow Rpms now ..

at 220k i would suggest your timing might be more the problem .
could be 1 or 2 deg off

One other item; I had the Monark nozzles matched to the orignal injector bodies and bench tested by a reputable diesel injector firm.

I thought Monark were suppose to be the better ones around. I was waiting for them to become readily available for my E300D.

Definitely heard to stay away from Indian made Bosch.

Yes, Indian made Bosch are not that great; try and source original German made Bosch injectors, your car will thank you! One other item, sometime ago, a poster on this forum showed detailed engineering drawings showing how Monarks do not protrude as far into the injection chamber as ORIGINAL DESIGN Bosch injectors. This may be one of or the only reason I experienced nailing using Monarks. That did it for me; I want my car's engine to operate the way Mercedes Benz engineers designed it to operate.

This is the worst comment I have read concerning the Monark Nozzles.

I have Monarks in My Volvo Diesel (the same as the Mercedes ones and they are not made for that application) and My Mercedes with no nailing issues.
However, sicne installation in both Cars I re-adjusted the timing to spec.

My thread from 04-11-2008:
Installed injectors rebuilt with Monark spray nozzles

Different strokes for different folks. A heavy hitter on this forum who spends 8 - 12 hours everyday talking with and listening to other Mercedes owners tells me he is hearing many complaints concerning the Monarks. His recommendation is to replace Monarks with original German manufactured Bosch injectors. The detailed engineering drawings showing how the Monarks do not seat properly into the injection chamber combined with his feedback along with my direct experience with nailing prompted me to get out of the Monark business. But, that's just me.

PS Started the car this morning and was pleasantly surprised to hear NO NAILING.

I put in a set of Monarch and got rid of nailing and poor performace. Of course I bench tested the old Bosch before swithching them and they were really tired. The new monarchs looked great on the bench. Great spray patern and even pop pressure. If they started

I guess your right different strokes for different folks. I will be buying another set of monarchs for my other benz soon.

I am reporting My experience and observation with the Monark Nozzles in Injectors that I rebuilt Myself.
Mine did not nail when I installed them and are not nailing now.

And, if there had been a nailing issue with them I would have been on this Forum reporting that long ago.

We know that over the last year the Monarks where not available. It is entirly possible that the Quality Control got out of hand; they stopped making them for a time and now are back.

If that is the case the ones from 2008 I used must have still been OK.
