OM606 Stuck Glowplug vs. EGR Poll
As the owner of two OM606 engines I read with interest the various "stuck glow plug" threads. The horror stories are fascinating but in my own case I've never had a seriously stuck glow plug. I attribute stuck glow plugs, at least in part, to the massive amounts of carbon (diesel soot) dumped into the intake by the EGR system. I'm curious to see if anyone else has had the same experience.
The poll asks whether you've had stuck glow plugs and whether the engine had a working EGR system at the time of the problem or immediately before. You get to decide for yourself whether your problem was serious enough to qualify. Please base your answer on your worst problem. Although I'm primarily interested in the results for the OM606 engine, any diesel engine with an EGR system is OK. Jeremy |
I did not take the Poll.
On the the Mercedes Engines with Aluminum Cylinder Heads and those long Glow Plugs the Golw Plut can stick due to corrosion in the threaded area and some have had Carbon come past the sealing shoulder on the Glow Plug and the Carbon filled up the Empty space between the sealing Shoulder and the Threads. I can't see how either of those could be related to the EGR. Now, excess Carbon build up on the Tip may be influanced by the EGR. |
