About how much labor for a/c work
95 e300d compressor or clutch locked or both. I know that its the original so I'm having a bunch of parts replaced. l ordered a new compressor from Pelican along with expansion valve, receiver/drier, and both pressure switches. I'm going to ask my mechanic to do the work since he has the recovery equipment. Does anyone have any idea as to how many hours of labor would be required to r/r compressor, e-v, receiver/drier, switches, etc? Let's assume there aren't any major stumbling blocks.

Some shops will recover the refrigerant (since they can reuse it) and then you can do the replacement work. It will save you quite a bit if you do that part, call a few shops and ask about that.
The R&R on the parts you listed isn't particularly challenging, it's just work. Otherwise, I'd just ask your mechanic for an estimate, since he knows your market and his labor rate. Good luck. |

All Data gives 1.1 hours for the compressor, 1.7 for the expansion valve,1.1 for the dryer, and .06 for the refrigerant temp switch. All times do not include recovery and recharge. If the mechanic is not familiar with these cars he will likely take a bit more time than is listed.

If you got all that work done for $500 in labor, consider yourself fortunate.
Most would charge more. It's time consuming work to change all those parts, check for leaks, charge it properly and guarantee success. |

Thank you everyone. This is very helpful. By the way, I ordered the compressor from Pelican on Thursday and it was at my door on Friday evening. Wow!

ask your mechanic to replace all the o-rings on the hoses, and flush them in the reverse flow direction. also have them reverse flush the condenser and clean the condenser fins properly then put in the correct replacement oil. you will have fantastic a/c cooling.
