I'm sure it will be $2.90 tomorrow, because in the last week prices have jumped more than $.50...

Mabbe it would be best if we compared it locally? I mean, some places have lower overhead while others have much higher overhead depending on where they are. If real estate in Main Street, Washington DC is twice what it is in BFE Arizona, can we expect that the prices of things sold there is consistant with DC?

well don't worry about price.....

heard on the radio today, from a guy in ct. , that gas is going up a quarter, that .$25 in the next couple of weeks, because of world wide demand. it is already up a nickel at the local mobil since yesterday.

if we were to increse our drilling in the anwr and the outer banks would it be possible to cut out suadi arabia completely and lower the price of fuel to americans? would that destroy the opec pricing and force them to sell ata lower price to the world?

It is south America that is supplying most of our oil, AFAIK. In any case, if widgets are generally sold for $20 and you started up a widget factory, would you sell it for less than the market rate? If Mobil Exxon drilled ANWR and found oil, would they sell it for less than market rate? I think not. So you would be back to square on. Now, if you found a large enough supply to export and would lower the price significantly, maybe. Lets say Russia, which has lots of oil were to do that to break OPEC, they could do it. But why would they sell oil for $30 a barrel when the rest of the world sells it for $50? Would you? By destroying Opec, you are also making less profits in the oil sale. Now, which company would do that?

We're not talking DC here. The places I'm griping about are just in a podunk area in the state of Washington. No high real estate whatsoever.

Prices up in PA too

Diesel has jumped up here also.
A station that was 2.099 was 2.259 this week, and two stations went from 2.299 up to 2.439, and the other from 2.349 to 2.439.
There is another station that is still at 2.249; maybe he hasn't sold all of his "cheaper stuff" yet?
In fairness, premium gas has jumped up about 10 cents a gallon.
Crude is back over $50 a barrel so I would think that this is to be expected....

Thumbs down I Was Wrong!!!

My "sources" inform me that odds are very good that we will see gas (unlead reg) prices in excess of $2.75 by Memorial Day, I hope they're wrong, but I am going to stock up just in case. The problem as I see it is there is no real control over pricing, consolidation has eliminated enough competition that if one major player decides on any given Thursday morning that they feel like jacking prices up by 20-30 cents a gallon across the board(unfortunately including diesel0, THEY WILL DO IT AND EVERYBODY ELSE WILL FOLLOW!!! Back in the day, they had a name for this, it was called collusion, it was illegal. I know that crude oil FUTURES are up, but it amazes me how that affects products already produced and in the ground. When my "Greedway" manager friends ask me why I'm not running vegetable oil yet, something bad is coming!

In Central Florida, last Friday the price was $2.08, today its $2.25.

If it goes to $2.75 I 'm flying Southwest Airlines on my long distance trips. It's cheaper!

This price behavior reminds me of 1973. A damn station would not even get a tanker fill, yet they increased prices on their existing inventory. What a rip.

The girl I was talking to (really cute one but that was not why I was talking to her) was telling me that they get tankers in every few days. Sometimes the lower the price before the tanker gets in and sometimes raise it. All based on their rack price that they would get the fuel for. IOW, if gas costs $1 a gal today, they would tack on taxes and markup according to a formula provided by the state. This price changes only once within a 24 hour period as prescribed by law. AFAIK, the markup was done to protect the little guy so they have to markup it up based on their costs. IOW, I cannot make less than X% profit or more than Y% profit. So, I cannot sell it to you at cost even if I was so inclined. All based on the rack price and the markup as prescribed by the state.
