Bio-Diesel

Hey, fuel costs are still incredibly low in the US of A compared to most parts of the world. We are very lucky. Of course, if one took into consideration the costs of maintaining our fuel supply we would (and should) be paying quite a bit more at the pumps. For example, all of our brave troops stationed in Saudi (and the many more who may be risking their lives in Iraq) are on the Federal payroll and they ensure that our supply chain remains intact.

I'm in the process of going to bio-diesel, an easy to use alternative fuel that runs on any diesel engine with little or no mods. It is made from vegtable oil such as soy-oil. Also, it is a renewable energy source, it burns cleaning, doesn't add more co2 to the atmosphere and it supports American Soy Bean Farmers. You can buy bio-diesel (or enviro-diesel) at the pump in San Francisco and in other cities too. This costs more but I think it is worth it in the long run.

North of Atlanta, diesel seems to follow whatever the mid-grade gasoline sells for.
Right now it's at $1.37 at the Chevron I normally use.
About 6-8 weeks ago, it was $1.19 and has been slowly creeping up.

Just noticed yesterday a big 7-cent jump at my favorite station to $1.369 ouch.

Reminds me of the price a couple years back when I first started buying diesel of $1.549.

I sure hope we accomplish the task at hand with an intelligence breakthrough and one smart bomb.

We were at $1.39 at my Mobil for a while, but we jumped t0 $1.41 last week (Rt 1 and Rt 40 south of Wilmington). Actually, Middletown Wawa seems the cheapest in Delaware with $1.31 for regular. The neighboring Mobil has Diesel at $1.39.

Christophe, I drive an average of 700 miles a week. I belive its about 4 times more than an average in Europe. They can afford higher prices by taking trains and public transportation. We cannot (yet). By the way, I read somewhere that with subsidies and tax breaks a cost of gallon of regular per a taxpayer is $15 in the US. An I hope we take Iraq, so at-the-pump price will be below $1.00

It would be really nice if prices dropped closer to $1 a gallon rather than $1.50.
If I do someday find an affordable 500E in nice condition, I'll be guzzling premium like a NASCAR driver.
I am glad that prices dropped from the $2+ a couple summers ago.

In my area of Central Texas diesel is now more expesive than reg unleaded. $1.40 diesel, $1.36 unleaded. I think a lot of this is because two refineries along texas, louisiana coast are off line due to a hurricane threat.

OH MAN it just jumped up another 4 cents to $1.399.

It's not even cold yet. I still think someone's buying for the strategic reserve.
