I think im going to try and find one off a junkyard application and simplify my search by using an OEM component. Next question, do you think the spring may be the same on 240s and 300D turbos?-

The next j will be to reinstall the cleaned up smaller springs, and build the big spring into the throttle bracket im making.

EDIT-
Gesus I have a horrible memory. I had this inkling that I had the correct spring that went to this specific motor, so went rummaging around in my spares. Sure enough, I have the entire throttle linkage from the 240 in question, including the remaining throttle spring, and not only that, but a note from the me from several years ago who pulled this out, to the me of now telling myself that I will probably need this spring to get the throttle to return fully to idle in connection to the spring below the injection pump.
oh well, at least I remember a little that I had something related to this, but I think ill start eating more memory foods.

just to complete this thread, here is the third large tension spring on the firewall-

again, this is unloaded so its hard to specifically state the tension as stretch was mentioning, but the stats are-

2mm thick material
17mm wide coil
48mm long coil
and made of of 24 coils

well, if these 70s MB engineers had realized what glorious things bungee cords were, they probably wouldn't have hired humorless and focused watchmakers to rig up an unnecessarily complex yet completely reliable throttle setup with about 40 little ball joints, springs, widgets, and rubber doodads.

Classic old mercedes, way over complicated and over engineered, and completely reliable and bulletproof anyway.
