Check the vacuum hose connections near where you were working. probably knocked one loose, seems like I do it every time. If you have a vacuum leak the shutoff won't work anymore and you'll have to use the stop lever on the motor. -Andy

Joel,

I assume it was shutting off before you "purged"....

Make sure you didn't accidentially detach one of the vacuum lines. They go everywhere and some control shutoff.

After that, the experts will have to help. I don't see how just purging your injectors would effect shut off.

You might have inadvertently disconnected a vacuum line. There is a valve that shuts off the fuel flow when you turn it off. I believe its right on the injection pump but even if you disconnect some other vacuum line, there is an air gap causing it to lose pressure. This is more likely since it worked before you changed the filters. It could be the shut off valve itself but it did work before...right? Look carefully, I bet you'll find a disconnected line.

thanks to all for your help --it was indeed a vacuum line which ran under another line out of direct view--thanks again

pretty hilarious that four enthusiastic people answered simultaneously offering similar advice, not knowing that others were writing at the exact same time. What a helpful group!

The best part is that the initial question got bumped to the bottom of the list! Kaos theory in its best form! There were ne responses when I wrote mine either.:D

I don't think it got bumped to the bottom. I think this forum is so great that you automatically get three answers before you ever ask! ! !
