What are some good Engine SWAP choices for a '93 300D ?

I am planning to take a drive this weekend to inspect on a 93 300D with 292K and in need of a new engine. Are there any suggestions for replacement or a creative "upgrade", that might be interesting or good values?

I would like to keep it a diesel but that is not even necessary. :rolleyes:
