I average about 22-24 in the winter and about 27-28 in the summer. When I fill the tank, I put in about 8 gallons of diesel, pour in Lubro Moly diesel additive, then fill up the rest of the car. Works wonders.

I second the above post. But the main factors are engine condition, transmission condition and most importantly how you drive the car.

I get a steady 26-28mpg year round without additives. My wife got 30mpg on average for one tank, which we've never been able to replicate.

I also drive by tachometer and try to keep it around 2600 rpm on the upper end.

The above milages posted is what we got on our 85 when it still had the automatic. we never did see 30mpg though.

However, with the manual 4-spd, we picked up 3mpg.

Over 3 years and 24,000 miles my 1985 300D-T got a maximum of 26 to 28 mpg during road trips running D2. Around town on B100 the mileage was typically low 20s (biodiesel has less energy than petrodiesel). The overall average was 21.4; on a steady diet of D2 or even B20 the average would have been a couple of mpg better.

I see about 25 with mixed driving conditions in my 1985, i have seen as high as 30 MPG, and as low as 23MPG. On road trips i usually get about 27MPG.
