FSM Torque specs for water pump???

Hello all, according to the FSM the torque specs for the water pump to water pump housing specs are 10 Nm. Since this seems like just a bit beyond finger tight, is it right?

10nm is definitely beyond finger tight unless you've got crazy fingers.

That said yes it's right. The gasket does the sealing. The bolts just need to be tight enough to not back out.

10nm is also the torque for the thermostat cover bolts, working fine on my car so far after a recent replacement. They aren't very big bolts. I remember when doing my water pump I almost twisted the head off of one without crazy effort. I didn't have a torque wrench those many years ago...

Without knowing what you are working on, it would be tough to say.

Sorry about that, my car was in my profile, and I've now added to my signature to help.

Thank you, it just seemed to be so little torque, when the wrench clicked, I'd set it to 8 Lbs. Ft. (my cheat sheet says, 7.4 lbs feet is equal to 10 Nm).

10 and no more

Ummmm...and don't go beyond the stated torque elsewise you can plan on fighting to remove a broken bolt...that's on my summer to do list...live and learn I didn't set the torque wrench quite right

Yup another BTDT on a OM61x engine.

Those bolts are extremely delicate. If the gasket seal is not perfect, the bolt neck can rust, and then when you try to back one out, *snap*

Fortunately the pump housing can be removed and replaced without too much difficulty. And the housing from a OM617 will cross to an OM616.

It sort of looks like Aladdin's lamp or a smoking device depending on your perspective.
