fill up at diesel pump...

um, the stinking 75.00 cut off had me filling and filling and filling... I left my wallet and credit cards on top of the pump... totally didn't know about it until a few minutes ago... when somebody brings the wallet to my door.

amazing...

Thank GOD the diesel pump is not used by many customers. a quality Diesel driver found the wallet, and returned it to me.

I'm thrilled.

Better that than some of the miscreant scum that seem to be ever present at the RaceTrac down the highway where there are con artists posing as needy beggars. Every pump has diesel, so there's no consistency in customer. Your wallet would prolly be half way to Florida, were you to have left it at a station like one near me in Texas. Nice individual that found your valuables, John.

Wow, lucky you. there are still some good honest Americans in this country. Usually it isn`t a happy ending.

About 10 years ago my Wife and I were in Albuquerque, Nm. for the weekend. We were on Hwy 40 going west back to Calif. we stopped in a place (I think it was Acoma) was a convience store and Mc Donalds. had coffee, and off we went. I get about 25 miles down the road, and my Wife said "Where`s my Purse"? "OH NO I left it back there.

I turn around and head back. We looked for it but didn`t think there was any way it would be there. The store manager let us use the office phone, and we were frantically calling the bank, Visa etc... to let them know etc...
We looked in the trash, the Dumpster thinking someone would have ditched it, no luck.

When we got into Winslow, Az. a branch of our bank is there and we were able to draw out some money to get the rest of the way home.

A few days later we head on up to Portland Or. to my Daughters for a week. a few days later my Daughter gets a call on her cell phone. usually an unknown # she won`t answer it, but this time she did. the person on the phone was calling from New mexico, had my Wifes purse, and every thing was there. and they mailed it back to us. there wasn`t even a penny gone.

We did get a reward to the person that found it, and that took some time to locate him.

Charlie

Lucky for you it was a diesel pump. Most diesel drivers, car as opposed to light truck anyway, strike me as straight up people....

Switched stations here over diesel pump $$$ cutoff issues. Argued with station manager and got huge attitude. Found another that gives me points back anyway....

The cutoff is either the credit card or station limiting a fuel purchase of $75 self serve at the pump. You can reset, close out first transaction, then restart a second PIA.

Four years ago, I was traveling to S Fl in my RV. I always refuel in Ga at the Fl state line. 5 days later on the return trip, I was getting a little queasy as to the where abouts of my license as I approach the same truck stop from the south. I pull in, and need to give my license to the pump clerk. She asked for it, and I said, You might already have it. Thank goodness she did and I didnot need it in between.

The $75 is a VISA/MC fraud protection limit for credit transactions.

I believe, but I am not 100% on this, that running the transaction as a debit does not have that limit, because you have provided another method of authentication (your PIN number) rather than just swiping.

I tripped the fraud trap last fall, when we had a marching band competition in Charleston and then had to go up to Charlotte the next day to pick up the wagon from vstech's (after it was FINALLY ready to bring home...) We had bought fuel in Charleston for my wife's vehicle and dinner at a sit down restaurant in the Market, then the next day bought fuel for the wagon and then my CR-V at a truck stop in northern SC. That got my bank's attention and they locked down my card. They definitely have a pattern of behavior that will set things off.

As an experienced traveller

I find that a phone call to the credit card companies prior to the trip covers the bases. Your charges will not be disputed if you tell them when and where in advance.

We dont have a cut off limit over here. Some places want pre pay at night. You hand them your CC or a couple of $100 bills & they let you fill.
You dont know how nice it is to have your own bulk tank at home. ~ except when it comes to pay to have it filled!

You were lucky John ! Maybe the DB's took one look at your pic in your wallet & decided they didnt want to mess with you !!

Nice that someone did that. Its good to be reminded that other people are honest and treat you with good will.

I've had a couple instances like that. One where I came out into a parking lot and found a door caved in on my vehicle, no note, no nothing, someone hit it really hard. Was fuming about this and got a call 2 days later from pogressive, stating that their policyholder ad hit my car and reported it, and could they send over an adjuster. The guy took the time to record my plate and make and model, ect. Insurance company said he was in a hurry and apologised for not leaving a note.

Most of the cutoffs near me are either $100 or $125.

I just filled the E300 the other day and spent $99.98!

Good people all over the world. Sister-in-law left her i-phone in during security check up, it went to another person who was also checking at Security. Wife get's a call from Dubai (her name was saved under Sister). Well the guy FedEx-ed it at his own expense, tried to pay him, refused & said someday if I loose something I am sure next person will do the same!

That's nothing! Try filling the 42 gallon tank in my suburban! Actually I like it. Means I only fill every 600-700 miles.

Pay at the pump cuttoff around here is mostly $125 up from $75 a few years ago.

Hahahahaha

My 25 gallon purchase was the first full tank after I'd driven it almost dry and then pulled the tank screen. I added a gallon and then drove it to the pump.

Trip meter reading? 769 miles. And I know I pulled at least three or four gallons out of that baby.

I don't envy Suburban owners at all. My coworker has a brand new Tahoe and he gets 14 mpg on his 40 mile round trip commute. While I drive my stock 84 300D 46 miles round trip with 27 mpg.

Which of your vehicles has a "25 gallon" tank?
