Transmission leak - your opinion please!!

The 300SDL was left standing for 3 weeks when I was on vacation. I found a wet patch beneath the transmission on my return. It was tranny fluid so I put the car up on stands and cleaned the tranny really good. It always leaks since I had the car and may be I should do something about it.

This is what I find after a few days. The whole tranny pan is dry. I find fluid dripping from front of the tranny where it mates to the engine and fluid dripping from the tranny cross mounting bracket at the back. So I think the front and the back of the tranny is leaking but not the pan gasket, B1, B2 piston covers or shift seal.

Where is it leaking from and how to fix it? Do I need to remove the tranny? Any info is appreciated.

On the Input and Output shafts it is poissible for the Seal to have worn a groove in the Shaft or for them to need new Seals.

On the Input shaft of of the ways of fixing that (the Transmission has to be pulled out) is to use a Speedie type Sleeve and Seal. Unfotunately you are speking of $40+ for that; but, you would only need it if the shaft is grooved.
I have not read of that heppening on the Output Shaft so I don't know if there is a Speedie Sleeve for that end.

I have the Input Shaft Leak and to a lesser extend the Output Shaft also.
I also had some 3-4 shift flaring problems.
When I was new to the Forum I read some people used Lucas or other Transmission Sealer/Conditioner for the shift issue.
So I used that. It worked and there was an obvious decrease in the leaking.
I am not recommending that you do that but it is what I did.

I notice that the Lucus stuff is somewhat like pink STP. It could simply be that the stuff increases the viscosity of the ATF and thicker stuff does not leak as much as thinner does and thicker fluid when pumped also should raise the pressure. That is how I guess it works.

I always figured those front leaks were the pump bushing and/or front seal. Rear could be something with the pump, downshift solenoid, etc.

Do you have that 722 PDF?
