240d Manual Drives Side Window Problems

Hello

Been awhile since I was here. Reluctantly sold my wife's last 240d because we moved to the mountains. Just bought another 78' 240d for her the other day since we are having a chitlin' and she missed hers so much.

Have to sort through a few new problems with this one. The drivers window is roles up good till about halfway when it comes in contact with the metal clip that holds the outer weatherstripping. The window rubs on this clip pretty hard and thus the back end of the window pushes upwards a little cause of the resistance on the front side causing it to not roll up properly.

Has anyone encountered this and know of a solution? I played with it for a while but couldn't get it to stop rubbing.

Anyone? What if I try to bend the guide inside the door towards the inner door panel?

yes, sounds like something is bent. if you can find one that works (junkyard?) then you can measure all the clearances and see what's out of whack. it is also possible to swap out the window regulator - they are available new and used. good luck.

If it is coming up 1/2 way and then the problem starts, I would guess the regulator, this being a 36 yr old car. the glass does ride in the window channel, so should stay centered.

I would take the Regulator out and take a look at it to see if it is bent or just worn to the point it gets out of line at a certain area of travel..

new regs are getting harder to find. pelican only shows one, and it is for the drivers door. MTC is China made. I would go with the meyle.

Thanks for the replies... Are the regulators challenging to put in?

I decided to try and pry the window guide inward towards the interior a tad to see if that would do anything.

It worked. The window freely roles up and down now. It did not seem bent at all so I am not sure what was going on but glad to have it working again anyhow
