six-pointed star

this disconnected multilegged thing was mounted to the side of my heater controls. no part number and the crimped ends do not seem to be electrical connectors. what is it?

It's the firbre optic connection for your switches and so on ~ there's supposed tro be a small bulb & socket in the middle there .

Colimari if not prepared correctly is usually rubbery in texture. So be sure to treat it correctly before ingesting it.

No, not into the heater control. The fiber optic wires plug into the back of the switches above the heater control and I believe gear selector panel as well as the center vent indicators.

On a 240D it will just be to light up the rocker switches on the upper panel above the heat controls. There is an extra bulb in the string with the ones that light the heater panel that inserts into the center.

Most switches only get 1 fiber but power antenna switch gets 2 because it has icons on the upper and lower halves. There is a little round hole in the back of the switch body where the fiber end inserts and a half round cutout to clear the fiber in the switch connector.

Use a cotton swab and alcohol to clean the ends first before putting it back together. Also very carefully clean the layer of grime off the icons with alcohol and swabs and with a fresh bulb you will actually be able to see the switch legends in the dark.

one last detail:

The device clips into a slot on the metal inner console frame, on the left side, just behind the upper left corner of the heat control.
