Tks

PS is BFH the correct German term for the tool?

Google Translate

I tried the translation at the above site but apparently it does not translate directly.

Some People have reported having trouble removing the lower Spring. But, they have not described what the trouble was well enough for Me to tell what the cause of their problem with that was.
The plastic boots are great, they have a lower recess in which they lock into on the joint and the spring then keeps them clamped. Its really easy to remove them with a sliver or a pick (I usually make such tools from old wiper blade metal leaves)

I beleive the MB boxed joints have a glue on the lower part of the boot to make it really watertight.

Found this and ordered it

[Pelican Parts.com - Ball Joint Press tool

They gave it to me for 282.00 including shipping. Will use it and report back once I get it here.

After I'm done with it, I'll offer it in the rental tool program here and hopefully help others out in the same situation.

Please try to find the tool on peachparts site first!
did you try to price match with pelican before posting that you got it at the other site?

I believe the springs need to be compressed and removed before the steering knuckle can come out. Wouldn't a spring compressor be worthy of noting as it is another expensive tool?

The spring doesn't have to be compressed to remove the steering knuckle, as long as the lower control arm is supported securely from underneath.

Please expand the acronym of BFH and translate it.

The brand of choice would be peddinghaus in germany.

Yes. The price of the tool was included in my original quote, when I bought all the parts from Pelican. It was over 500 bucks. When I get home, Tuesday, I can post the actual quote.

Just to clearify, it was originally pelican who directed me to the site I bought the tool from. I support pelican with 90% of my purchaces but even they know there are times they can't match the price.

I took a look at a W126 in the junk yard yesterday and you are right; one does not have to take the spring out. Dang it, I should have done ball joints and upper control arms while I replaced the wheel bearings and rotors.

I need to replace the ball joints in the next year because I get a clunk when I slam on the brakes and I already replaced the driver's side guide rod bushing. The passenger side guide rod bushing looks good.

Done! Just drove it from the Alinement shop, car feels like new. The tool, words can not describe how easy it was to do with it. Both, literally a 5 minute job.
