How to break into (your own) 123.

I bought a 240D parts car last night for its 4speed setup, I enjoyed dubadxx's swap I did for him so much I'd like to have a kit around so I can swap a 240 for myself. However the trunk is locked and my friend who I got it from does not have the keys.

There is supposedly a fairly legitimate 2 tank WVO setup in the trunk that another one of our friends is interested in, and the junkyards around here sometimes like to look and make sure the fuel tank is removed or punctured, so I need to get in there.

What is the the best way to break into my own trunk? I didn't know if there was a way to move the lever by breaking the black plastic around the lock or some drilling that could be done. I figured I'd ask before I just go crazy with a sledgehammer, the trunk lid is really pretty decent.

some of them have a release cable on the driver side under the rear seat. I would check that first. Another method might be to unlock via the central locking using a might vac. Not sure which yellow vacuum line it takes, but they will be located on the right side of the car. Easiest access is to remove rear seat.

You can use a pole with a hook attached to reach through the first aid kit hole, pop off the cover by the lock and pop open the trunk. There's a thread here somewhere detailing the process.

This is what it looks like behind the seat. Plus the fuel tank is right behind that wall.

The Quick Way....When its drilled out you'll feel a little lever on the right, push it in with your finger or a stick and that will open the trunk.

There is a picture of what you will see after the Plastic Cover is removed inside of the Trunk.

Once the Plastic Cover is off on Mine if you move that Linkage in the hole the Plastic Cover Covered in the direction of the Red Arrow if you puss the Trunk Button it will open.

That will only work if you can push the Trunk Button in.

Ignore the Wire attached to the Linkage as that is something I added.

Some other People have managed to insert a Socket through the 2 red circled holes (attached to a long chain of Extensions) and and remove the 2 Blots that hold the Whole Trunk Lock Tumbler Housing in place. I can't remember if they are 10 or 12mm Blots. But, that info is in one of the Threads on this subject.

If you don't car about the Body of the Car one Member has said you can Put a bolck of 4by4 (I would try to find this thread about that incase you want to do it as I am not sure I remember correctly where to put the block) to the Right side of the Trunk Lock Housing and have someone apply slight upward pressure on the Trunk Lid and you hit the Block with a heavy Hammer hard and the Lid is supposed to pop open.

i just did this and made a thread about it. if the pole/lever through the first aid box doesnt work, you can drill through the black metal key button surround. i used a 5/16", about 1/4" to the right of the button. once you break through you can use a screwdriver to push the lever and pop the trunk. i plugged up the hole when done.

Locate the yellow and green plastic vacuum line under the rear seat and suck on it.
If the key hole is in the horizontal position this will allow the vacuum pod in the trunk to unlock it.
Beats drilling!

Thanks for the info guys! Its a parts car so the drilling next to the lock method isn't a problem for me. I will try the vacuum method first if the key is turned the right way. I think the second tank in the trunk will make the pole method difficult.

I'm in Cincinnati for the day but ill try tonight or tomorrow and report back

Wait... There is supposed to be a plastic cover over that stuff? I have never seen one. I know this is slightly off topic, but what exactly does that cover look like?

I don't have a pic and My cover as been off for over a Year and I am nut sure where it is.
The Cover only covered the large hole where you can see the Spring and Rod insided.
