I love my 240D

Bought a 1980 240D a couple weeks ago. Not perfect, but a diamond in the rough.

A complete upper control arm, a lower control arm inner bushing, a new set of front brake pads, a driver side manual window regulator, and a bunch of elbow grease later has now made it fairly tolerable to drive. She still has a long list of things that I'll need to do on her, but I can't deny the big grin I had on my face driving the old beast around tonight.

Gotta admit, there's just something about driving these old diesel merc's that I love!

I have a lot more tinkering to do with it to bring the old girl all the way back into tip top shape, but that's why I bought her; as a "fixer upper" hobby car...and I gotta say, I love the thing!

Engine & tranny are really strong, body's in fairly good shape, so from here on out it'll just be little things that she'll need, but she's already taken up a place in my heart. I can tell it'll be a lot of fun!

The other thing I'm amazed at is how well these cars are built to be worked on. I remember thinking the same thing about my old 300SD. Every time I work on it I think, "The engineers that designed this thing must've been mechanics! Everything is built to be easy to fix, rebuild, and replace."

Anyway, thought I'd share some of the fun.

Also, thanks so much for all the help I've received here so far. You guy's rock! I also contributed to the financial well being of the forum by buying a bunch of parts from Pelican for the old girl too.

Hi Don,

I also just got my 1st 240D 2 weeks ago and doing 1 thing at a time to get it in the shape it should be in. Taking care of some body rust myself, put in a new linkage pivot bushing today ; waiting on new cloth fuel injector lines & air filter from Pelican .

Any pics of your new gal? ENjoy it.

Austin
