Sealant On Manifold Gaskets?
I just bolted up my intake and exhaust manifolds on the OM617. I pulled the studs so I could get to the surface. Then I used a diegrinder and abrasives and got everything uber clean. Then I cleaned all the threads and reinstalled the studs followed by the manifolds.
After I did all this hoopla it occurred to me that maybe it would be helpful to use some sort of magic goo on the gasket faces, especially as the gasket had failed at one of the exhaust ports. As it is the gasket is dry. Any input? Dan |

When I had mine off I found that both the Exhaust and to a lesser extent the Intake Manifold were warped.
In My case I have a Precision Straight Edge to check that sort of thing or have used the flat surfaces on My Lathe Ways for that. But, if it is bad enough warpage can show up when sitting them on a flat Kitchen Counter. Automotive Machine Shops can check that. I reused My Intake/Exhaust Manifold Gasket and the Turbo Flange Gasket by spraying it down with Copper Coat. The Glue can burn of but the Copper particles are going to remain trapped and help seal. I have not read the Manual closely but I doubt if they suggest any Sealant.
