w124 driver side window -- not the regulator or motor

I have 1992 300D. The driver side window will go down, but will not go up.

I have replaced the regulator and motor and still have the same problem.

I can get the window to go up if I shut the car off and then turn it back up and press the up switch, this works about 70% of the time.

When I do try to make the window go up, I do hear a click sound in the motor but nothing happens.

I also swap out the switch and that did not fix the issue.

Suggestion? A ground problem?

When you replaced the regulator, did you clean out the tracks that the window rides in? 20 year old grease get caked up with dust. Also, check the alignment of the window/regulator to door. If it's a little bit off center, or misaligned, it could cause problems.

Note Going down is easy, as gravity helps.

Another thing, about the switches. They can be cleaned and repaired. The rocker portion pops off, revealing 2 tiny springs, 2 small bearings and a couple of pieces of bent copper. disassemble, clean, and add a little grease and the switch will work like new (unless the bearing is rusted out of round)

Thanks for the info, I did swap driver side and passenger side switch and the problem did not go away.

Also I swap the relay and the problem did not go away, my guess it is ground issue some where

What relay did you swap out?
The comfort control module should be the control for the windows.
The fact that when you re-energize the system it sometimes works can be indicative of a relay resetting.

Do your windows operate/close with the operation of the door key?

Look at continuity in the wiring harness.

The door joint gets brittle over time. My 87 had the same issue, the insulation got hard and the wire broke at the hinge.

It would make contact in certain situations.
