Just my 0.02.......
Exactly. When I sell something, I decide what I'll take for it, then add some negotiation room into the asking price. The last time I sold a car, I determined I would take $300 for it, but put 500 OBO in the ad. I ended up getting $315 and was happy with that.

No.

Most people talk like that, just as most peopl on the forum here probably say things like that when their kids aren't around.

Roy has a teenage daughter so he is always super careful.

In Detroit "Mother" is only half a word.

The trailer is gone.

I took your other post as a suggestion, and told a random (Dearborn) tire kicker $50K this afternoon...
He turned the most interesting colors and stomped away.. ROFL

I have a Vanagon Westfalia that is parked on the street. I'm used to getting notes on the window asking me to sell. Often they are photocopies of a hand written note so that lets me know right away it's a car flippin' low ballin' gypsy. Last week the car flippin' low ballin' gypsy comes to my front door while we're having Sunday dinner. I kindly tell him the car is not for sale twice when he responds with this gem. "What if I give you $1500!"
I tell him "especially" if you give me $1500 the car is not for sale. Bye Bye.
Another pet peeve is when they ask you what is the lowest you would take for it. Before they even see it!

It sold for $1K.
I added in some spare good used:
* A small chain binder.
* A 2" x 27 Ft. Ratchet Tie-Down.
* A seven pin male trailer connector.

Yes. I point out the asking price and say no more.

Good deal on the sale.

I've also done this before. While I don't lower the price, it's not uncommon, if I decide I like you, to offer to increase the value of what you're purchasing for my price. You get more, and it usually cleans up some much needed space in my barn. No one "loses" in this deal.

Ouch

I went to one of my local industrial supply stores (carrying a 1/2 inch breaker bar) for a special tool.

When I came out, a guy had all of the 1978 280SE doors open taking pictures.

When confronted; he claimed to be a buyer waiting for the owner...

I walked around closing and locking doors (that pissed him off).

The "dim wit" finally realized I might be the owner, and offered $400.00 USD.
Slight understatement: I did not react well (still carrying a 1/2 inch breaker bar).

Guess he thought I was frightening...

He ran screaming half way down the parking lot, for his girl friend to start the (rusted scrap) for a fast escape as he dived through the passenger window.

His girl friend whipped the car out of the parking space, and rammed a parked unmarked State Police car "because the brakes failed".

I think the officer was not happy...

I bought another 300SD this week. The ad asked for $750. I showed up with full payment in cash expecting to pay about $650 but prepared to spend $750 if I thought the car was worth it. After the test drive and feeling how solid the front end was, I was only concerned about the engine having a miss at idle. It seemed a lot like air intrusion in the fuel system or possibly dirty injectors. The guy had run it on straight VO in the past. I told the seller that I was going to offer him $650 but since the steering is so tight, my only concern is the engine when it idles. That said, I asked if he would take $700. He was happy and I was happy. That's how you buy a car.

"The engine has a miss at idle and I'm going to need to replace all the fuel injectors to cure it. That'll cost $200, so I can give you $550 cash right now for it".

That's how you buy a car.

(The solid condition of the front end is irrelevant).

wow
I bet you lock all the doors from now on. It seems you have an incredible number of people trying to get their hands on your cars.

Did you make a statement to the cop about what the guy was just doing?

I honestly don't think he would have gone that low. I think I could have beat $650 out of him but I was so impressed with the car that I did not want to risk losing it.

I hear you have a few cars of your own... It's an addiction. I have 3 Mercs and F250. I also live in an apartment. Did I say addiction?
