i don't know if this is OT for this thread but since it seems to be "tool"-related.....

this guy pulled up next to me today and started screaming at me for running kerosene in my truck! i was so flummoxed A) because i don't and never have and B) i couldn't figure out what kind of imbecile would give enough of a crap to bother yelling at another driver about it were it actually true.

I don't know what you are referring to -- I was referring to BC as never, NEVER, beating ANYTHING out of ANYONE .

Yes, I have three cars, but unfortunately I don't have anything as useful as a pickup. How many of your cars are on the road? How many are parts cars? I have one parts car, one car not on the road but destined for it, and one on the road... on top of that, I also drive a Toyota Corolla (parents' car), and deal with a Toyota Sienna in the driveway that I rarely drive anymore... it is just in the way. If I were allowed to thi the herd, the Sienna would irsekf with a rof sale sign.

My apoogies for any spelling/grammatical errors -- the cat has been flicking her tail over the keyboard for the duration of this post.

Oh, I thought you were inferring about the amount of cars you have; directed toward me. Never mind... LOL

The 300SE is the only parts car. The first 300SD I have is my daily driver and the second, that I just purchased, will be road worthy once I replace the radiator. The PO glued a piece of PVC pipe in the upper neck and it failed on the drive home. I just hope no damage occurred. It was a slow failure and I think I caught it before it went for too long.

I hear you about the cat issue. I have two of them attacking me right now.

I have a feeling that Brian gets his cars for next to free. He sounds like a hard negotiator. I was ready to walk away from my first 300SD because it was in such poor condition. The fella was asking $1200 and I eventually got him down to $850. The interior was shot, the steering and suspension were shot but the engine was great. I bought the car because of the engine alone. The second 300SD was already priced lower than what I paid for my first. The test drive sold me. Sure, I may have been able to squeeze a few more bucks out of the seller but I am satisfied with my purchase and the price.

Don't I wish.

All but one were bought from DB dealers who basically ripped ME off. It's really difficult to walk away from a vehicle that presents well when you're 1500 miles from home. The 740iL was a beautiful vehicle that I paid handsomely for because of the low mileage (58K). However, it had about $2K of deferrred maintenance that wasn't immediately apparent.

My latest acquisition, the 300SE, was from a person on the forum that I trust implicitly. It's exactly what he stated and the price was very good for a vehicle with only 100K on the clock.

You don't need to necessarily beat the seller out of his last dollar............and you definitely will not do that when you've traveled a long way to see (purchase) it. There's some serious travel funds involved, and those funds would need to be duplicated if you walk.

Yeah. Buying cars long distance is a whole 'nother animal. There is a lot more investment and risk involved. I was so impressed with this car, given the price, that I wanted to walk away with the title and keys even if I paid full price. I was not expecting a daily driver (with some attention needed) for $750. I was expecting more of a parts car and or project that moved under its own power. Sure it needs a few hundred bucks worth of maintenance items to be within my standards but what car wouldn't?

Oh, and if you need anything for your 300SE, let me know. I am parting out my 1990 model and I am making deals. I need this thing gone in the next month or so. Make a list if you wish. Offer me a bulk price. Parts either get sold to the respectable folks here or they go on Ebay.

Two cats? At least our other one is too lazy to stir up trouble (except for fighting with her sister). Anyway, the cat left when she was offered milk.

I may be looking for some misc. W126 parts... do you know anyone down there who would like a crack-free black W126 dash (black-on-tan)? I have one, but my 'SD has a blue interior and so I can't use it. Does the 300SE have heated seats? Do you have an ashtray?

I will keep my eye out for people looking for a tan dash. I don't know of anyone right now, though. the 300SE does not have heated seats as far as I can tell. No switches for them. I have a few ash trays with Zebrano wood. If you are interested, PM me.

Oh, the cats. Yeah. I have two boys, Ed and Al, they are about 14 weeks old. They love destroying things and getting into trouble. Ed is the sweet one and Al is always in trouble. I'm trying to toilet train them; which is its own challenge.

Nah. That's just an interest. Not an addiction until a sizable number of bits and pieces from said vehicles is IN said apartment .

At one point I had 9 vehicles and lived in an apartment (rented an industrial bay with very lax parking rules too).

1970 Volvo 142s
1975 Volvo 164e
1982 Volvo 242
1985 Volvo 740 Turbo
1982 Volvo 245 Wagon with Ford Mustang 5.0 drivetrain and Getrag 5spd
1972 Rover 3500s V8
1979 300sd
1960 220se
1960 220s

The key rack got very confused at times. When I finally bought my house I was down to three, as the landlord at the rental bay got nasty and I finally realized I had to stop trying to rescue half the sad old classic cars that turned up in the wrecker's front yard.

All the cars on my lot are listed 20%-30% over what I want to get because people off the street expect it. To avoid lowballers, my Craigslist ads are always near bottom dollar and firm. If the folks are nice I can make them feel good by giving an extra $200 off. They see how far below my sticker price they are getting it for and feel good about the purchase.

The high price Obo tactic with cl takes way too much time and effort for me.

For me, it is a full blown addiction worthy of AA treatment. I have a rented garage that has Mercedes parts all over it along with tons of tools. There is a valve body from a 722.315 in my kitchen, my entryway has two small boxes of misc parts, my kitchen table has numerous pieces of Zebrano wood trim and there are three totes of misc parts next to the TV.

Sunroom: three boxes of misc., spring coil, W123 taillights
Family Room: W123 mirror set
Living room: 3 boxes used to be there but they got evicted
My room: Two alternators, wood trim, NOS timing parts, typewriters, W116 blue armrest, other stuff I can't remember...

I have lots of other stuff in other places, but this is everything that is in the living quarters.

The officer (gun out) was totally focused on the idiots that hit him, and I was not going to distract him.

I drove off LMAO...

Thankful nothing worse happened.
I repaired the single corroded lock that evening.
