How to remove down flrx pipe w123?
Dows the down flex pipe require welding or cutting? i need to take mine down and replace it.
Any help is greatly appreciated |
I think Yes. In general on exhaust systems if there is no Clamp and you cannot see the Joint where one tube is shoved inside of another they are welded on
But, if you are not going to do the Welding Yourself you might take it to a Muffler Shop and ask them. within the last 3 weeks someone did this on their Car with a 603. They bought a generic Flex Pipe although in this case they weleded it themselves. You pipe is larger than the one in the thread. |
ive welded a few from the $20 flex at mcparts stores.
you can order the section from the turbo to the tailpipe from the dearer... |
Well i just spent hours doing it!!
At bottom of car theres a u shaped clamp, one side 12 mm and one side 13mm, a little penetrating oil and that was the easy part, then on top after removing battery tray and air filter housing i undid rear bracket on turbo and off it comes from the top, no welding or cutting tools needed but a bit challenging because of the need for a second person to wiggle and lift to get the bolts and brackets lined up. :2thumbsup:2thumbsup |
The exhaust system on a 300D Turbo, comes in 3 sections. Down pipe, center muffler and pipe on either end if it, and the rear muffler with a short piece of pipe.
Down Pipe bolts to the Turbo, and other end attaches to the transmission bracket via a "U" clamp. the center section bolts to the Down Pipe via two long bolts and a Flange with a steel Seal Ring in between. The rear section and center section are a slip joint and a clamp. And of course the rear has the 4 rubber "O" ring Do-Nuts. I have installed it by my self using 2 jack stands to hold the pipe as I tightened it up. When they are old and rusty, they can be a challenge sometimes. Kroil is my friend. :) Charlie |
