1998 e300 injection pump
I finally took my pump out for oil leak repairs. The way I timed it was I think way too simple. Please advise if I made any mistakes. Anyway, I found TDC by turning the engine and looking through oil fill hole for two marks (little holes) on one of the gears(sprockets?) in there. When those markings showed up I turned the engine some more until it went to about 15 degrees after TDC. I used a tool to hold the pump locked into the little flat bump. Replaced bottom and side gaskets and put everything back. Replaced all clear fuel lines as well as feed and return rubber hoses. Need to find vacuum pump gasket.
So, I just want to verify that I found TDC . Those sprocket (gear) markings are still questionable to me.Is there something else that could be identified as TDC markings? I've been trying to fire it up for the last two days with no luck. Holding the key for 30 seconds and waiting 15 seconds in between. Try 4 times before charging the battery. Forgot to mention that I used the basket for the timing device. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks. |

Search posts by Jeremy5848. He has posted pics of his 96 with the valve cover off and timing marks exposed. Valve train is the same as your 98.
