24mpg is right on the mark for a 617 123 with an auto tranny. Nobody gets 30mpg except on Craigslist or Ebay.

[QUOTE=Jooseppi Luna;3153583]Here it is, and it's from eatont9999:
5+ gallons of water -for you and the car- Distilled if you can....... A great list, but may I add a couple of metal coat hangers. Exhaust hangers are subject to wear and a coat hanger can get your muffler off the ground until you can repair it properly.

It is, specially going 75mph minimal speed around here btw....plus altitude.....plus hills.....if you can drop your speed 10mph or little lower.....you can gain a few more MPG....

Drop in a 4-spd manual and 2:88 Diff, and you could (depending on driving habits) see 29 - 31 mpg.

Have to disagree about 24M.P.G.. Before I got the TD-T she was doing 25 M.P.G.. Now she has regularly obtained 36 M.P.G.. Currently getting 27M.P.G. because I have been in a hurry getting to class... Though, it isn't stock per say.
Glad the trip is going well! The Mercedes is the only classic auto I trust driving anywhere. Part of it is because of the sheer simplicity.

That puts you at around 100 gallons used at the end of the trip ,the rest of your travel is on much flatter terrian ,you should see a slight improvement on mpg.
Theirs alot more speed traps through Texas , afew of those speed drops from 75mph to 55 mph I would keep my eyes peeled for,DPS officers will set up shop right as you pass the 55 sign ,A ticket that will cost you as much as the fuel your burning for your whole trip. |

Slight improvment from 24 MPG...

Now as for Deputy Dog... I had been warned about the speed traps and was very careful to drop from 75 to 65 to 55 (sometimes even 45)... But wouldn't you know those old dogs got a new trick... After going thru the 3rd town barren of people at 55, coming out the other side as soon as I saw the 70 MPH sign I started to speed up... And there he was waiting before I got to the 70 MPH sign... Pulled me over for 66 in a 55... I was all like "But the sign..." (which was now behind us) and was all like "Yea, 70 MPH BEYOND the sign but NOT BEFORE it !!"... UGH... $185 (about 3 tankfuls) to the state of Texas... Let's hope I won't be meeting anymore of his friends along the way... I didn't think a photo would be a cool idea... lol... |

If you happen to be directed to go through Utah, find another way....or be very very very careful. Don't have anything in your car, in the form of pills, bags, herbs, anything.....I got stopped at the boarder of Arizona, got over the hill seen the sign and started slowing down....but he got me....of course I didn't end up with a ticket, I ended up with a warrant and now I am a felon....long story....but be very very careful if you head that way....the cop said I was high because my tongue was discolored from eating doritos but they never made me do a drug test....

The half shafts or axles (2 of them ) will start making a clunking noise espicially on turns with your foot on the gas,not a complete failure of the joint ,its just giving rise to the end of its life span .Ive driven at lower speeds with one noisey half shaft ,it got my around for another 3 weeks before I could replace it.Very rarely do they both show signs of their age (you should have no problem with yours since renewed ones were added),most times you want to replace both shafts at one time.If you have an opened up boot ,(4 boots in all, 2 on each shaft)it will most likely start making noise before the end of your trek.The failure of the boot is what I believe he was pointing out.
