HEY NOW !! TODAY IS THE DAY TO START MY RETURN TO PALM SPRINGS CALIFORNIA !!...

I have topped of the fuel with some injector cleaner... And added one quart of Lucas to the oil... Tires have been rotated just for the heck of it !!... I had hoped to check out some A/C equipment that is for sale close by, but didn't get a response in time to do that... So I am headed back north to Tallahasse today... From there I will be taking a somewhat different route on the 84, stopping in a little place called Waynesboro MS... Then going up to catch the I-20 at Jackson MS... I will be having overnights in Shreveport, LA and then Dallas, TX... I will take the I-20 thru TX until it dumps back into the I-10... From there I will make stops in Las Cruces NM and then Phoenix, AZ... After all that is the short stretch back to Palm Springs, CA... Looks like all systems are a go... And shortly we will have lift-off !!...

PS ~ A couple shots in front of my friends house...

Exclamation ACCORDING TO THE SIGN...

I AM TRAVELING THE EL CAMINO EAST/WEST CORRIDOR... I left Tallahassee and just cut across a corner or Georgia where I took some photos of Ol' Grey with some BIG John Deere BOYZ... Saw some cool sites along the Alabama back roads of the I-84... And finally made my way into Mississippi... I am in Jackson tonight and will be headed for Dallas tomorrow...

Oh, another thing... 1958 Mercedes 220S...

I came up on this old girl being towed down the highway on a flatbed trailer... Got a couple of shots off... Before I reminded myself to stay focused on the road... lol... About 45 mins later I was filling up and she pulled right up next to me... Check it out... Guy says he had a new motor imported from Germany and has plans to trade it out for something else... Go figure...

Make sure the plastic radiator hose necks on the radiator are solid. Take the hoses off and make sure they're not about to break off. If it is the original radiator they might be getting close.

WOW!! That is a clean looking 58, even the bumpers are not dented.
Has a Calif plate on it. For some reason MB sure was into Red interiors back in those days.

Sounds like you are having a good fun trip. I wouldn`t be pulling off the Radiator hoses during the trip. sure these Plastic Radiators crack in time. best done when you get home.

YIKES !! BAD NEWS TODAY !!...

I have been getting along great until today when it all started to go up in smoke... Literally... Yikes... There is something going wrong with the blowby oil that comes from the valve cover into the air filter which is over the turbo... So it has been dumping way too much oil into there and it is leaking out the air filter housing... I stopped and talked with a mechanic who thought that changing out the fuel filter might help, so we did that much... But I am really putting it to the test now by cruising on down the highway at a gentle pace... Every 50 miles or so it feels like a downshift and a big puff of smoke goes out the exhaust... The temp stays around 180-190 and the oil pressure at 45... I made it to Las Cruces New Mexico and am on my way to Phoenix this AM... (400 miles)... So I am hoping I can just keep dumping oil in until I get back to Palm Springs... About 700-800 miles to go !!... Wish me luck !!

That car was a 240D body not the coupe. It had the euro spec motor with fresh rebuild and we got 35 highway many times. I took a short mileage only run one Saturday where I drove 55 only and got a high 39 but that was not a full tank run. Key here is fresh engine, five speed tranny and 307 diff. The euro spec injection might help, I don't know.

The 300CD had the turbo us motor with a four speed and would do high twenties.
I don't think it ever topped 30.

A wagon is heavier and probably not quite as good aerodynamically.

Sounds like your voyage is almost over Kevtod ,looking back would you have done anything differently to the cars preperation ? It looks to be an enjoyable / non eventfilled trek except for the last leg ,and yet still drivable . The guys over in Europe see much shorter trips for vacation jounts, this kind of expansive trip is a proud shining star for the olde 617 .Across the pond you could have mapped out a drive from Italy to Sweden and it would have still been shorter by a mere 1400 miles one way.

I don't think the fuel filter has much to do with your blowby condition. Sometimes those PCV hoses get kinked or plugged which can increase crankcase pressure. How much blowby is coming out of the valve cover at idle with a hot engine?
