BBS/AMG body kit replica

So let me start off by saying HI. My name is konrad and im an owner of a 300d for awhile and a long time creaper on this forum. This is my first post. So I recently purchased and whole BBS/AMG body kit. Front lip, side skirts and rear spoiler for the w123 chassis. I have a friend that specializes in fiberglass and was wondering If and how many people would be intrested in replicas?

I don't know if many D owners would want to add this to their car, but it's an interesting piece. I'm sure the originals would get more buyers than replicas...

I would be very interested in a complete set.

Sadly looks to be w123. Would love to hear pricing. Many of us have wanted this for a long long long time. Give us a price and ill find you some buyers. There is a guy in the phillipines that makes these but the shipping is unobtainable.

Customize them to fit on a wagon.....

ayrtonsenna 06-01-2013 02:38 AM

I know of a few people who'd be interested in this

konradwax 06-01-2013 02:40 AM

well i will have them in about 2-3 weeks, and im sure i can get them to fit a wagon if I had one to test fit, I will keep you guys posted with pricing and product

I guess it really depends on the price & overall quality of the fiberglass. If its not too expensive a lot more people will buy it. :) Will look forward to the finished copies. :) Just noticed you don't have the rear skirt. :-(

Rogviler 06-01-2013 07:19 PM

I'd be interested in some for a wagon as well... If not a separate custom kit then just the front and side pieces that I'm sure would be easy to modify as needed. At least as someone who has done that sort of thing before, can't speak for anyone else of course.

The rear skirt is really hard to get. I can assure you guys that the quality will be top notch, now that being said it wont be real cheap but definitely affordable.

The cost of resin has doubled each of the last two years- gel cote even more..-or else i would have done the molds off mine.
you will need a LOT of luck with this venture, trying to motivate anyone driving an old benz to pry open their wallet....... take it from me and pick an item that fits a vehicle that people will spend on--without breaking out in hyves at the mere thought of.

I have seen and installed many varieties of these on 1961 - 2006 Mercedes.

I actually like the concept for air flow/ground effect/MPG. :)

Quality/warranty (outside of OE AMG) can be random/risky. :(

Sadly they don't survive parking barriers and curbs very well.
Usually the purchase cost/paint/labor puts them out of reasonable reach for daily drivers. :(

:) I will be interested to see the cost and feedback on this kit.

what I know of the AMG parts are that there seem to be about three different versions, mostly were made of thermoformed acrylic pieces-(no fiberglass layup reinforcing them), which means the first cold morning the driver hits something -like even an empty cardboard box they will shatter. some were frp -fiberglass reinfirced plastic Also the gaps under each side of the euro wraparound bumpers were really ill fitting / unsightly. one version was pretty nice looking, and on something 21-6 yrs old the warranty hasn't existed for 20 yrs so there sno reason to think there is any.
And the second nail in the coffin is the shipping price even if a perspective lookie loo can get over the trauma cost of the parts in the first place without threapy-which he definately wont spring for--that means , leaving their Comfort Zone they have convinced themselves they are entitled to because they are now messing with an old benz.
Like you mentioned in some used car thread about price negociating, Roy. The entitlement mentality, everyone is supposed to supply them with whatever -at a loss, whether its neato parts-or another old heap.
