Junkyard Finds
So with the influx of a half dozen or so 124 cars at the local Lkq I've picked up some goodies. Facelift lights, a pair of four piston brakes and a dozen or so throttle links with the better threaded metal ends. Any other "presents" I should get while theyre there to be had? I can never think of things to grab until I leave. There is a fairly clean and mechanicly complete early 126 with a 617 turbo to be had if someone wants it. I was down to one bolt trying to get the t3 off before the dang rain came in . Feel free to gloat over any finds as well.
edit: I've got a decent mental inventory let me know what you're hunting and I'll help if I can! |
Where are you in NC? I'm in Wilmington and it's always good to hook up with fellow motorheads.

Im in Chapel hill/Durham. Wilmington has that giant pull-a-part doesnt it?

What color interior the early 126? I would be interested if they're palomino, and not totally used up.

We'll be gone for a month but when I get back let's get together. Could be fun. We could do a PnP crawl and then hit a local beanery. Dan |
Sounds good always nice to have some benzfreinds local! Truly is unfortunate what gets scrapped there is a perfectly straight(albeit very dirty) w124 wagon in the inprocess yard. To think some gave that car a death sentance hurts me.

When they are donated to a charity, you can bet they will be bought by PNP. If the charity doesn`t sell them directly, then they go to a wholesale yard where they are up for grabs. You need a dealer type license of some sort to be a buyer.
Older traded in cars also get sent off the wholesale yards. they don`t want old junk to clutter up the dealership and spoil a sale of a new Econobox. I see nice rust free undamaged cars in our yards all the time. there was a 83 300D, nice interior, crack free dash, no accident damage. only thing I saw wrong was both rear 1/2 shafts were torn open big time. the cost of replacements at a shop, sent it to the scrapper. most shops will charge around $600 per side. Charlie |
No luck on the 126 blue and destroyed. Hello wagon! Looks like the old girl made almost 300000 before the head on the 603 crapped out makes me feel a bit better. No. 14 head oily coolant tank gotta be blown. Intact SLS, I briefly contemplated adding it to my car but that would be way pricey after replacing all the rubber bits and new nitrogen spheres. Im thinking Ill grab the ip turbo and injectors when it drops on the yard. 603 and 602 injectors interchange right? Anybody know offhand? Ive looked it up before but it escapes me.http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9d6cc3a1.jpg

Good to know my thought was to have a spare set to rebuild then swap in and have an extra just as a bonus. Ill grab the ip even though its a six because i can get it real cheap. I hope Im never in a bad enough spot to have to consider using junkyard gp's some things need to always be bought new IMO.
