E300D Trunk Weirdness

Have read some trunk threads....but not all.

On my new-to-me 95 E300D, I know the trunk opens, because I saw it open when I bought the car last month. But first time I tried to open it, nothing seemed to work. It wouldn't open via central locking system from driver's door. And it wouldn't open from trunk, even though key seemed to go distinctly into 1, 2, and 3 positions.

Then I unlocked the car from the PASSENGER side and the trunk opened.

What's going on?

Sounds like a problem with the central locking system. The lock in the trunk lid should be activated by any of the three locks (front doors or trunk). Have you tried unlocking the car from the inside with either left or right door button?

Not yet, but I will.

If the issue were with the central locking system, wouldn't I still be able to open the trunk with the key?

My central locking is dead in both cars (W123 and W126), and the key still does a great job at opening either trunk. Stupid question: I know that on my 'SD, I have to open the trunk "just right" -- i.e., turn it all the way, push it in all the way, or it won't open. Could it be that you just opened it "right" after unlocking the passenger's-side? It would be very weird for unlocking it from different sides from the car affecting whether or not you can unlock the trunk.

About a year ago my trunk began have a delay , it does not matter which is used, the "key", the trunk button or the console rocker arm, all result is about
a 15 second delay in opening. I'm sure it is central locking system related but I've gotten used to the delay.

valet key

By chance, are you trying to use the round valet key to open the trunk? The valet key doesn't open the trunk.

No. This key turns in the trunk....goes to all positions.
