2005 E320 CDI - Replaced Blower Motor Regulator. Now even worse!

I had an issue in hot weather the fan would either turn markedly slower or would cease working all together. The fan itself works great, so I decided to replace the regulator. With the new regulator installed, even on the high setting, the fan cycles weakly on and off every 5 or 6 seconds. It's way worse. Anyone have any ideas? I can order another regulator since replacing it obviously influenced the fan's operation. But before I do that, is there anything I could have missed? A ground wire or another connection of some kind I may have overlooked?

I don't know if it's germane to an '05 CDI but the first owner of my '96 E300 (W210) had to replace the controller ("porcupine") in the climate control because the blower ran only at a very low speed. To make it worse, the new controller was not compatible with the old blower and they had to buy a new blower too, even though there was nothing wrong with the old one. Could your car have a similar situation?

There was a VIN break for 211's where you have to replace both the blower motor and regulator as per DTB P-B-83.25/76c.

If your VIN is up to B081230 or X220604, then you must replace both for it to work properly. The earlier blower motors was the actual problem and taking out the regulators. The blower motor was updated as of the VIN listed above so if a problem arises, only the regulator required replacement.

Hope that helps!
