82 300TD Will Not Crank

So, noticed my pre-filter getting a little dirty so scheduled some time to change it this morning. Got the pre-filter changed went for a quick test ride, came back home, parked the car. Went to run to the auto parts store for some stuff for the wife's car and.....dead.

Battery is charged, so says my battery charger..

When I turn the key to the glow position, everything shuts off. I tried another GPR and same thing. Pulled the glow plug wires off the GPR, the car will go into the glow position but the starter will not crank over.

At a loss at this point. Can anyone point me in the right direction??

Thanks in advance!

Is the car in Park? Try jumping terminals 1 and 3 in the junction box on top of the inner fender in front of the battery.

I'll try that. I did just start running VO so not sure if maybe a coked up GP could cause it.

Which terminal are you referring to? The fusebox?

And, when in the glow position the tach needle bounces all over the place.

It might be a corroded battery terminal. Had the same problem many months ago. $0.50 new terminal solved the issue!

As long as it is does not become a permanent state for you it is OK. Because, We all end up there at some point.

People including Myself troubleshooting stuff don't like to go back to the basics and check all those things before we suspect the more complicated items.
Once in awhile not checking the basic stuff has you chasing your Tail.

I have to grin a little when new Members post a question thinking there is just one possible answer to it.

Going to be the stick in the mud here...

But if your running wvo....this is just a sign of things to come, soon you'll realize free fuel is not so free.....special if you couldn't tell your battery cable was corroded.....

Not lacking in troubleshooting skills, just new to benz diesels. The nice thing is this isn't my only car.
