Got a 3rd row seat assembly and cargo net for my W124 300td today !

Was out at the salvage yard today, looking for parts for my 87 300TD, there were no diesels, but there was a 94 E320 wagon that has the same interior color as my car. What a great find - was able to get a pile of needed and nice-to-have parts; luggage rack cross bars, replacement sun visor clips, cargo net assembly + the middle seats (they have a special set of tracks for the cargo net assembly) 3 rear headrests, both interior wheel hump panels with the seatbelt holes and guides and the third row seat.

I think I'm going to have to go back and get the headliner since there are holes already for the seat belts and the cargo net clips. My question is this; Will my 87 car already have the threaded holes and punch-outs for the seatbelts? Anyone ever done this to their 87? I also got the rear hatch panel that has the clip hooks. Getting that off was a beast, so was digging out the rear seat belt feeders.

SCORE!!

If you can get back, here are some more goodies to get. If you don't have a use for them put them in the FS forum, I would hate for those rare bits to go to the crusher.

Grab those tail lights, they are very hard to find and those look pristine. Same for the CHMSL enclosure in the rear window, those are NLA and they get sun beat.

I would also grab that upper console wood, it too is rare since a wagon has a different switch complement than a sedan. Get all the switches too since many are unique to the wagon.

Since you are pulling the headliner and already have the rear door inner cover off, get the wiring harness that goes across the hinge. The wires on the 87s tend to break due to stress. I have that problem, my rear defrost quit because the wire is broken in the wire harness.

Extra credit: Grab the shifter/ignition/brake interlock assembly and the shifter wood to get that extra safety feature so you can't knock the car out of park accidentally.

Extra extra credit: Grab the entire dual airbag system including the pax air bag, controller, wire harness, and center arm rest. That can be transplanted into your car, pwogaman did that to his wagon.

Great find! You should not have to change the headliner and the mounting points for the seat and cargo cover should already be there. Both of these were dealer installable options. In fact, I retrofitted the cargo cover to my 1990 300TE per MB instructions which said to poke a hole in the head liner in a certain way. I'll see if I can dig up the instructions for you.

You might want to also grab the rear shocks and N2 spheres as those are gastly expensive if you have to buy them, but PNP yards don't know that. Also, grab the third brake light housing if you didn't brake it removing the back inside trim. How are the prices there anyway?

I got a kitchen pass for tomorrow afternoon to get more parts. I was planning on getting the tail light lenses too. I'll take your advice on the wiring harness. I need to also get the hatch struts, but I have to learn how to do the job first ( and what tools I need). The console parts are easy too, but the airbag I haven't a clue on. It might have to wait till the last.

Thanks for the kind words! This car was a blessing to find - it was my first time to this yard, and while I was walking to this car I ran into an old friend from a church we used to go to (haven't seen him in 18 months). I am picking up parts for my new 87 300td that I bought last weekend. It likely needs a head gasket (and or a head too) so I was looking for 300D's. There were none.

Now I am hoping that when I get the roof liner and side panels out of my car that there are threaded holes waiting for me (and a place for the seatbelt retractors to mount). I saved every bolt, nut and washer. Just hope I can remember what goes here.

I got everything in that list for $130 (my little pull cart was full). I think I saw n2 spheres under the back seat? The rear shocks may be a problem, I don't have the tools for that, suppose I could pay them to pull them.....I didn't break the third brake light, so I'll get that too. Am I becoming a hoarder?

Well, well, well. What a day! I arrived back at the bone yard and found another MB guy already working on this same car. We knew each other - he was after the front seats, I was after everything else, so it all worked out. Paul (POWAMGAN) met me there and the three of us sweated and scraped our fingers all afternoon long.

My sincerest THANKS to Paul - he turned the removal of several items (that would have taken me hours) - into 30 seconds or less.

We ended up turning this car into the Thanksgiving Turkey - nothing but bones left. I got the tail light lenses and bulb holders, the rest of the cargo net hooks and clips (can't believe I missed those yesterday, what a dope I am), CHMSL (thank you jab_bob for the explanation), rear wiper motor/locking motor assembly + relay, instrument cluster (going to use it for parts), the rest of the middle seats (didn’t take the bottoms for some reason yesterday, now I have ‘em) and the holy of holy’s – the rear hatch hydraulic struts.

I’m so tired. Now I have a pile of things to install / replace.

Afterwards Paul stopped by my place and inspected my recently purchased W124 300TD (even told me how good a deal it was I front of my wife – BONUS points for Paul and Me).

Here are some photos – I am going back to finish removing the brake pedal interlocking shifter (got almost done, but then it was closing time). The car has great front doors, great driver side rear door, hatch is excellent, the hood looks good too. It is a V6 gasser, so I don’t know anything about what is useful on it. If I had the room, I’d bring it all home, but that would be a hard sell to the First Lady.

From the rear - I had just finished removing both struts, so the hatch was being held up by my MB broom stick.

All seats gone, threre are still some interrior panels left.

A shot looking to the rear from the drivers seat. The interrior was all leather.

Almost forgot, it has three nice MB rims (one was the spare).

I got myself a nice set of 94-95 W124 headlights with wipers out of the trip. ;-)
