Any Diesel Owners From the Northwest Chicago Burbs

Just trying to find any locals to the Chicagoland area. Don't have to be from the northwest burbs. Looking to maybe set up some meets and discuss tech sell parts etc...

howdy neighbor!

Curt,
That's a great idea. I'm on the north side in Chicago. But right now I'm visiting family in Tampa area right now and checking out the PNP's while I'm down here is definitely on the agenda! In my limited experience, the PNP's south of KY are have been awesome for W123's! The main limiting factor has been my wife's patience. My 84 TD is in 1000 pieces right now. I'm in the process of replacing the majority of anything made out of rubber (seals, hoses, vacuum line connectors, accuators, etc.) The PO was negligent to say the least. That saying that "there's nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes" is so true. With luck, the TD should be on the road sometime in July.
Let me know if there's anything you'd like me to look for while I'm down here.

Doug

Hi Doug,

It seems most of us (unless purchased from another Benz lover) end up working on on our cars to fix stuff the PO neglected. My car is not exception. I you happen to find any hard fuel lines for a W123 TD that would be awesome.

I've see a couple 123's kicking around out by me. Wasn't sure if any of them were members here.

I plan to hit a few PNP's when we are on out road trip in September. We're going to headed out to Colonial Williamsburg and then head down into the Carolinas in and then a few days in Smoky Mountain National Park. I am hoping the wife lets me do a little browsing while down that way. Seems we have a lot of members down in the Carolina's and Tennessee.

I'm located on the Northwest side of Chicago and have an 85 TD. A meet and greet sounds good. My younger daughter has been telling me about a wagon she's been seeing during the school year. I finally saw it the other day and wondered if the owner hangs around here.

Curt,
I'm not having the luck I had last year. So far I've been to Tampa and St. Pete and no W123s. I'm hoping to get to Bradenton and Sarasota before my return to Chicago Saturday. I'll look for those TD fuel lines for you if I come across any wagons.

One other member and I will be meeting up at a classic car show in Itasca Saturday evening. It's at the buona beef right off of Thorndale and Arlington Heights rd. If anyone is interested. I believe it begins at 6. There is a large parking lot next to the restaurant (the building I work in) should we not be accepted by the classic car folks.

Doug,

I may be heading down that way myself soon. My wife's uncle is not in the greatest health and we will have to head down there to settle the estate should the inevitable happen. Definitely some pretty country down there.

The car show should work out for me to stop by to meet and greet. I'll be in Elk Grove Village late Saturday afternoon immediately north of the location in Itasca. Unfortunately, I won't have my wagon as it is undergoing some repairs.

Good deal. It would be cool to get a regular thing going with all the locals.

I also started a group on facebook if anyone is interested. Go to the search box up top and type in Midwest W123 and you should find us.

Doug,

I need a VCV for my 300TD. If you see one can you grab it for me?

Cancel that. Found one.

Appreciated the stogie. That and car conversation is always a good time. Some interesting non-MB iron at the larger gathering too. I should have my wagon next time. Thanks for organizing.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier. Went out there tonight, not with one of my smokers, and had a nice cross section of cars. Before we left we were looking over an older FIAT Nuova 500. Earlier in the night saw a nice Corvair Monza Spyder, or at least the turbocharged Corvair. As usual a lot of muscle cars. We're only a few minutes away so we'll make this a weekly outing. We'll be the ones in the white 240D.
