Pictures are fuzzy and none of the interior but a few more clues is that the cruise actuator is missing as well as the idle control cable plus the line from the brake reservoir to the clutch is a replacement with a us spec hose clamp.

Edit...see the rest of the photos....I say it has a lot more miles....but it may have just been road extremely hard and put away wet...I still say the seats have been replaced but I see the height adjustment is still there...

You can see that a palomino seat set has been swapped in...post 1979 donor, no doubt. The original color was the darker color of the door cards...bamboo? Drool...thats the color of my 79 interior ...too bad about the seats. I agree it has more miles than you think.

If I saw that in my market posted for $3200, I might take a look at it thinking I could take it home for say 2500-2700?

Don't remember the ac situation though. No ac drops those numbers by 500-1000

Your right, that is a bummer....that is a nice interior color but good luck finding skins for the seats in that color and in the pattern used in pre 80s w123's...

I also wonder what happen to the blue plates?

I don't think I would even look at for 1500$....I would want compression numbers from the engine...

It might be worth it to run a Carfax and see what comes up...

Thank you for your feedback, guys.
By the way, the AC works just fine. Also, it has almost new tires on, I'd say about 80-90% thread left. I took really good care of it. Two or three years ago, when I replaced the radiator, I did the citric acid flush.
If others would like to chime in, it would be very much appreciated. Also, for those who have already posted, if something else comes to mind, by all means write it. I'd like to hear as many opinions as possible...
What are blue plates?
Thanks..

If this Car was originally sold in Calif. then it would have the Blue Plates. The White plates could show that it is from out of state originally, and brought into Calif and registered here.

If a Plate was damaged, and a PO ordered new plates from the DMV, then this is a possibility of having white plates. You can not order just one plate with your numbers, they issue new plates.

I noticed the inner fenders are a Tan color, while the car is painted white, and the underside of the Trunk Lid is white also, should be a dark grey. Could be a repaint.

I noticed that as well.

I think that is a 2000-2500 car. A manual 240D is a neat car IMHO. Too bad the seats do not match since Bamboo is one of my favorite interior colors (it also seems to be very rare)

I would ask 3500 and see what happens.

That's another bummer, that color combo would have been sweet....

Just throwing it out there, but I wonder if this car is stolen? They sure did an amazing job with a color change....new seats....new rims....new plates and I can't tell but it looks like the id plate on the radiator support is missing...plus the milage change....

Has the op checked the vin number on the title with the number on the firewall and door frame?

@charmalu
All the CA cars I see in my area have white plates..do you mean to say that back then they were issuing blue plates? I'm not sure I remember having ever seen them.
When I bought it back in 2005, the car was freshly painted.

@gatorblue92
I agree, to me this car is not only stylish, but also a tank. It's very simple mechanically, and I made it a point to find one with the manual transmission, because I knew that, properly maintained, this is a combo hard to kill. I often get compliments on how good it looks.

@cooljjay
I'll see if there is an id plate on the radiator support and I'll compare the VIN on my registration to the ones on the firewall and door frame and report back. How do you assume a mileage change? The guy I bought it from was an older gentleman out in Manhattan Beach..it's a wealthy area..this was not his daily driver, he likely took it out only on weekends. But I'm not absolutely certain he was the original owner.

Re:mileage -- Car just doesn't look like a low mileage car. May not have had the odometer swapped or tampered with, may have just stopped for a while. That's what happened to my 1980...reads about 20k lower than actual mileage (stopped for a year or so before I fixed it).
